Does the veil (hijab) oppress women? Or are non-Muslims oppressing/denying Muslim women’s right to wear it?

19:16 And mention in the Book Mary, when she withdrew from her family to an eastern place. 19:17 Then she took a screen (hijaban) from them. Then We sent to her Our Spirit, then he appeared to her in the likeness of a well-proportioned man.

(Some non-Muslims try to oppress/deny Muslim women’s right to wear the veil/hijab)(The veil is modesty (24:31), and protection of women (33:59), and Mary also wore it (19:16). The use of veil is supported in the Bible: 1 Corinthians 11:6 says, “for if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head”. And there are no objections on using veil / hijab in the Torah (Genesis 24:65, “she took her veil and covered herself”; Genesis 38:14, “covered herself with a veil to disguise herself”))(Allah knows best)

2:120 And the Jews and the Christians will never be pleased with you until you follow their religion. Say, "Indeed, the Guidance of Allah is the Guidance." And if you follow their desires after what has come to you of the knowledge, you will have neither any protector from Allah nor any helper.

24:30 Say to the believing men to lower their gaze and they should guard their modesty. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what they do. 24:31 And say to the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their modesty, and not display their adornment except what is apparent of it. And let them draw their head covers over their bosoms, and not display their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husbands’ fathers, or their sons, or their husbands’ sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or that which their right hands possess, or the attendants having no physical desire among men, or children who are not aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah altogether O believers, so that you may succeed.

(God is the One Who says how women have to display themselves in Islam, not men (24:31, 33:33))(Allah knows best)

33:32 O wives of the Prophet, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear, then do not be soft in speech, lest he, in whose heart is a disease, should be moved with desire, but say an appropriate word. 33:33 And stay in your houses and do not display yourselves (as was the) display of the former (times of) ignorance. And establish the prayer and give zakah (charity) and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah only wishes to remove from you the impurity, People of the House, and to purify you with purification.

(God is the One Who says how women have to display themselves in Islam, not men (24:31, 33:33))(Allah knows best)

4:127 And they seek your ruling concerning women. Say, "Allah gives you the ruling about them and what has been recited to you in the Book concerning the orphans women to whom you do not give what is ordained for them and you desire to marry them, and the weak among children and to stand for orphans with justice. And whatever good you do, then indeed, Allah is All-Knowing of it.

(God gives ruling about women (4:127))(Allah knows best)

33:59 O Prophet, Say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw over themselves their outer garments. That is more suitable that they should be known and not harmed. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(Protection of women)(Allah knows best)

33:53 O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when permission is given to you for a meal, without awaiting its preparation. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, then disperse without seeking to remain for a conversation. Indeed, that was troubling the Prophet, and he is shy of you. But Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask them for something, then ask them from behind a screen (hijabin). That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not for you that you trouble the Messenger of Allah nor that you should ever marry his wives after him. Indeed, that is an enormity near Allah.

65:6 Lodge them where you dwell, out of your means and do not harm them to distress them. And if they are pregnant, then spend on them until they deliver their burden. Then if they suckle for you, then give them their payment and consult among yourselves with kindness, but if you disagree, then another may suckle.

(Protection of women)(Allah knows best)

16:90 Indeed, Allah commands justice and good, and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality and bad and oppression. He admonishes you so that you may take heed.

38:24 He said, "Certainly, he has wronged you by demanding your ewe to his ewes. And indeed, many of the partners certainly oppress some of them [on] another, except those who believe and do righteous deeds and they (are) few." And David became certain that We (had) tried him, and he asked forgiveness (of) his Lord and fell down bowing and turned in repentance.

(Oppression is forbidden in Islam. Non-Muslims are the ones who oppress women. See the article below: “Do non-Muslims oppress women?”)(Allah knows best)

33:28 O Prophet, say to your wives, "If you desire the life of the world and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and release you with a good release.

(There is no compulsion on women in religion)(Allah knows best)

50:45 We know best what they say, and you are not the one to compel them. But remind with the Qur’an whoever fears My threat.

18:29 And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe and whoever wills - let him disbelieve." Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a Fire, its walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like molten brass, which scalds the faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.

2:256 There is no compulsion in the religion. Surely the right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in false deities and believes in Allah has grasped the firm handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

42:15 So to that then invite, and stand firm as you are commanded and do not follow their desires, but say, "I believe in what Allah has sent down of the Book, and I am commanded to do justice between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds and for you your deeds. There is no argument between us and between you. Allah will assemble us, and to Him is the final return."

109:6 For you is your religion, and for me is my religion."
