Verses some Sufis should ponder about. Is it ok to be a Sufi?

Verses some Sufis should ponder about. Is it ok to be a Sufi?

22:78 And strive for Allah with the striving which is due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you any difficulty in the religion. The religion of your father Abraham. He named you Muslims before, and in this, that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over mankind. So establish prayer and give zakah (charity) and hold fast to Allah. He is your Protector - so an Excellent Protector and an Excellent Helper.

(“Muslim” is an Arabic word meaning “one who submits (to God)”, that’s how we are to be named, and were named before (22:78); on the other hand, “Sufi” is an innovation, and it means “one who wears wool”. Some other sources say that “sufi” means “purity”. Whether it has a good or bad meaning, it is an innovation which is not within Islam)(“Islam” is an Arabic word meaning “Submission (to God)”. God does not accept a religion other than Islam / Submission (3:85). The true religion is not called “Sufism”. And Verse 53:32 says “do not ascribe purity to yourselves”)(Allah knows best)

3:85 And whoever seeks other than Islam as religion - then never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be from the losers.

41:33 And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteous deeds and says, "Indeed, I am of the Muslims/those who submit?"

27:91 "I am commanded only to worship the Lord of this city, the One Who made it sacred and to Him (belongs) all things. And I am commanded to be of the Muslims

4:95 Not equal are the those among the believers who sit, except those who are disabled, and those who strive in the way of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred in rank those who strive with their wealth and their lives to those who sit. And to all Allah has promised the best. And Allah has preferred those who strive over those who sit, with a great reward,

(Some Sufis focus on particular aspects that might cause deviation, for example, there is a saying attributed to the Prophet, mentioning two jihad, the greater and the lesser one, while the words “greater/inner jihad” or “lesser/outer jihad” are not explicitly mentioned in the Qur’an, but the Qur’an mentions just “jihad”, for example: “and strive” (wajahidu); “their effort” (juh’dahum); “those who strive” (l-mujahidina); “and striving” (wajihadin), etc.)(“Greater” jihad was defined as “it is the struggle against oneself” (“Jihad” means “to strive”), while “lesser” jihad was defined as “fighting against the enemies”. The Qur’an does not mention that a so-called “greater” one is better than a so-called “lesser” one, but any struggle can be good; for example, if the so-called “greater” one is done in order to “not associating partners with God”, then the person would be or become a believer. But, once you are a believer, those who strive with their lives are greater in rank than other believers (4:95). The name “greater jihad” (aka “other than striving against the enemies”) could wrongly make people think that sitting is better than striving with their lives. And also the name “lesser jihad” (aka “striving against the enemies”) could wrongly make people think that sitting is better than striving with their lives, because “lesser” suggest a state of being lower in rank or position or lesser in importance or value. So, such concepts “greater/lesser jihad” should not be used)(Note: fighting in Islam is to be done in self-defense, and against oppression. See the link below: “Do Muslims have to kill Jews and Christians just because they are not Muslims? Or is it only allowed in self-defense?”)(Another example, some Sufis exalt Muhammad, for example, there is a Sufi saying: “Muhammad’s wisdom is uniqueness because he is the most perfect existent creature of this human species”, while the Qur’an says, We make no distinction between any of His Messengers." (2:285); and “Allah - there is no God except Himthey encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills” (2:255); and “indeed, all honor is for Allah” (4:139); and "Say, "I have no power for myself to benefit and nor harm, except what Allah wills. And if I would know of the unseen, surely I could have multiplied of the good and no evil would have touched me. I am not except a warner and a bearer of good tidings to a people who believe." (7:188); and “Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord” (7:203))(Allah knows best)

42:13 He has ordained for you of the religion what He enjoined upon Noah, and that which We have revealed to you, and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not to be divided therein. Difficult for the polytheists is that to which you call them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns.

(Muslims are ordered not to be divided. Sufis differ because they follow and believe in sources other than the Qur’an (e.g. Sufi literature), while the Qur’an is the Guidance, and a Criterion over other sources)(Allah knows best)

28:88 And do not invoke with Allah another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything (will be) destroyed except His Face. His is the judgment, and to Him you will be returned.

(Some Sufi groups mix Islam and Hinduism. For example, they think that God is all or everything, but that’s shirk (idolatry / polytheism). “Everything” will be destroyed (28:88). God is not “everything”. God is Eternal (112:2), the Ever-Living, the One Who does not die (25:58), while “things” will die/be destroyed)(“Sufism” is also defined as the so-called “Islamic mysticism”; “mysticism” is defined in the Oxford dictionary as “belief that union with or absorption into the deity or the absolute”; according to this definition, mysticism implies shirk (idolatry / polytheism), which is forbidden in Islam. Some people use/d Sufism as a way to practice Hinduism in Muslim countries or communities without being persecuted, so some Sufis use parables and symbolic words so that “shirk” is not that evident among people (e.g. some Sufis say that they are drops of the ocean, while ocean is referring to God, so as if mankind were deities or God). Such Sufi beliefs are a branch of Hinduism, not a branch of Islam; in Islam there are no branches, but is one religion (21:92))(See the link below: “How the Qur’an corrects Hinduism?”)(Note: persecuting people because of their beliefs is not part of Islam, there is freedom of religion in Islam. See the article below “Is there freedom of religion in Islam?”)(Allah knows best)

12:106 And most of them (do) not believe in Allah except while they associate partners with Him.

2:24 But if you do not do, and you will never do, then fear the Fire whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.

(There is a Sufi dua, which says, “if I worship You because of fear of Hell, then burn me in Hell”, while the Qur’an says that you should fear it (2:24), so it is a worthless and wrong (Sufi) dua. And also an unrealistic dua, because no human would want to stay in Hell, but “they will call there (for) destruction” (25:13), so the punishment is so painful that people would rather ask for destruction than being burnt there. Or, for example, Sufis say that they are “beyond Hell”, and that the fire of hell cannot touch them, etc., while the Qur’an says, in Verse 2:80, “they say, "Never will the Fire touch us except for a numbered days." Say, "Have you taken a covenant from Allah, so Allah will never break His Covenant? Or do you say against Allah that which you do not know?", and Verse 16:23 says that God “does not love the arrogant ones”; and Verse 4:171 says, “O People of the Book, do not commit excess in your religion and do not say about Allah except the truth”)(Allah knows best)

2:42 And do not mix the Truth with falsehood and conceal the Truth while you know.

(Muslims cannot mix the Truth with falsehood (2:42). The Qur’an is the truth from God. Verse 47:2 says “… believe in what has been sent down upon Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord”)(Allah knows best)

21:92 Indeed, this is your religion – one religion, and I Am your Lord, so worship Me.

(The origin of Sufism is disputed. Some sources state that Sufism emerged during the Islamic Golden Age from about the eighth to tenth centuries. According to Ibn Khaldun Sufism was already practiced by the Companions of the Prophet. Even if Sufism were from the time of Muhammad and his companions (to make people think that the companions witnessed Sufism from the Prophet), it does not prove Sufism to be right, but Verse 29:10 might suggest otherwise, just because they met the Prophet, it does not mean that all of them were pious, on the contrary, the Qur’an confirms that there were hypocrites among the Prophet (63:1). Verses 29:10 and 4:141 confirm that they were with the Messenger (“Indeed, we were with you” (29:10), "Were we not with you?" (4:141))(Even two wives of Muhammad were against the Prophet (66:4-5). According to Verse 66:5, unless they correct themselves, there were wives better than two of his wives, in these matters: “submissive, faithful, obedient, repentant, who worship”, etc.)(Allah knows best)
