Was Aaron responsible for the golden calf? Does Aaron share in their guilt at the event of worship of the golden calf?

Was Aaron responsible for the golden calf? Does Aaron share in their guilt at the event of worship of the golden calf?

20:85 He said, "But indeed, We [verily] have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray." 20:86 Then Moses returned to his people, angry (and) sorrowful. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not promise you a good promise? Then, did the promise seem long to you, or did you desire that the Anger of your Lord descend upon you, so you broke (the) promise to me?" 20:87 They said, "We did not break (our) promise to you by our (own) will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people, so we threw them, and thus threw the Samiri." 20:88 Then he brought forth for them a calf's body which had a lowing sound, and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot." 20:89 Then, did they not see that it could not return to them a word and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit? 20:90 And verily Aaron had said to them before, "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Gracious, so follow me and obey my order."

(Aaron did not worship the calf, but instead, he warned against it (“you are only being tested by it” (20:90)), and he said that God is “the Most Gracious” (Merciful), so “follow me and obey my order”)(Verse 20:85 specifies that the Samiri led the people of Moses astray, so the people of Moses were the wrongdoers (7:148), excluding Moses and Aaron)(Samiri brought forth a calf’s body (20:87-88). On the other hand, the Torah says that Aaron made the calf (Exodus 32:1-4). Aaron is slandered by the Jews/Judaism. Other Prophets were also slandered by Jews, for example, Jesus, who never claimed to be God or son of God, but Jews tried to accuse him of blasphemy. The Torah is not a reliable source, so the event of Aaron is corrected in the Qur’an. See the link below, “Is the Bible corrupted?”)(Allah knows best)

20:91 They said, "Never we will cease being devoted to it until Moses returns to us." 20:92 He said, "O Aaron, what prevented you (mana’aka), when you saw them going astray, 20:93 That you did not follow me? Then, have you disobeyed my order?" 20:94 He said, "O son of my mother, do not seize (me) by my beard nor by my head. Indeed, I feared that you would say, "You caused division among the Children of Israel and you did not respect my word."

(This Verse specifies that Aaron “saw them going astray” (20:92), so Aaron is not included among them. Aaron was reproached for being “prevented / hindered / arrested” (20:92). The root of “mana’a” (prevented) is “Miim-Nun-Ayn”, and it means “to prevent or hinder or hold back, to impede / withhold / arrest / restrain, to keep / debar / preclude / inhibit, to forbid / prohibit / interdict, deny or refuse, dispute or contest, etc.”)(Aaron had to follow Moses (20:93) and obey his order (20:93). The order was to take Moses’ place (7:142), to do right (7:142), not to follow the way of the corrupters (7:142). The Qur’an does not say that Aaron did wrong or that Aaron followed the way of the corrupters, but was prevented / hindered / arrested in taking Moses’ place, so Aaron was not followed or obeyed (20:90))(Allah knows best)

7:148 And the people of Moses took, after him, from their ornaments an image of a calf, which [for] it (had) a lowing sound. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to a way? They took it and they were wrongdoers. … 7:150 And when Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said, "Evil is what you have done in my place after me. Were you impatient (over the) matter of your Lord?" And he cast down the tablets and seized his brother by (his) head dragging him towards himself. He said, "O son of my mother, indeed, the people considered me weak and were about to kill me. So (let) not the enemies rejoice over me, and do not place me with the wrongdoing people." 7:151 He said, "O my Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your Mercy, for You are the Most Merciful of the merciful."

(In Verse 7:151, he asks forgiveness for himself and his brother, but the Verse does not say that they were guilty at the event of worshiping the calf, but, according to the context, Moses “seized his brother by (his) head dragging him towards himself”, while Aaron was not guilty, but Aaron was prevented / hindered / arrested in taking Moses’ place, so he asked forgiveness in that which they were responsible of, not in that which they were not responsible or guilty. Notice that, in the Verse, he did not ask forgiveness on behalf of those who worshiped the calf, but he asked forgiveness for himself and his brother)(Allah knows best)

7:155 And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. Then when the earthquake seized them, he said, "O my Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me. Would You destroy us for what the foolish among us did? It was not but Your trial by which You let go astray whom You will and You guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the Best of Forgivers.

(In regard to Moses asking forgiveness, this Verse confirms that people other than him did wrong: (“what the foolish among us did”))(Allah knows best)

7:152 Indeed, those who took the calf, will reach them the wrath from their Lord, and humiliation in the life of the world. And thus We recompense the ones who invent.

(Aaron is mentioned in other Verses as a good-doer (6:84, 37:121), instead of someone humiliated in the life of the world (“Indeed, those who took the calf, will reach them the wrath from their Lord, and humiliation in the life of the world” (7:152))(Allah knows best)

37:118 And We guided both of them to the Straight Path. 37:119 And We left for both of them, among the later generations. 37:120 "Peace be upon Moses and Aaron." 37:121 Indeed, We thus reward the good-doers. 37:122 Indeed, both of them were of Our believing slaves.

6:84 And We bestowed to him Isaac and Jacob, all We guided. And Noah, We guided before; and of his descendants, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. And thus We reward the good-doers.

19:53 And We bestowed him from Our Mercy his brother Aaron, a Prophet.

5:25 He said "O my Lord, indeed, I do not have power except (over) myself and my brother, so (make a) separation between us and between the defiantly disobedient people."

(In Verse 5:25, Moses disassociate himself and his brother from his people)(Allah knows best)

20:87 They said, "We did not break (our) promise to you by our (own) will, but we were made to carry burdens from the ornaments of the people, so we threw them, and thus threw the Samiri (l-samiriyu)."

(Jews derogatorily called “sister of Aaron” to Mary, and said a great slander against Mary (4:156), while she had a son when no man had touched her (19:20). The Bible confirms that calling someone in a derogatory way, whether true or false, is a Jewish thing or practice. John 8:48 says, about Jesus, “The Jews answered him, “Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?”. Jews were against Samaritans; so they used that word in a derogatory or pejorative way against Jesus, while Jesus was not Samaritan)(John 4:9 confirms that Jesus was not Samaritan: “The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” For Jews do not associate with Samaritans”)(Allah knows best)

7:80 And when Lot said to his people, "Do you commit (such) immorality which no one has preceded you of the worlds? … 27:56 But the answer of his people was not except that they said, "Drive out the family of Lot from your town. Indeed, they are a people who keep (themselves) pure.”

(Genesis 19:30-38 tells about Lot committing incest, but the Bible is not a reliable source)(Allah knows best)
