Jesus vs. Paul. Does the Qur'an confirm Paul because Pauline Christianity prevailed? Do Paul / Christians teach concepts that are not from the Bible / Gospel? Is the Antichrist a Muslim? Who opposes Jesus?
61:14 O you who believe, be helpers of Allah, as said Jesus, son of Mary, to the disciples, "Who are my helpers for Allah?" The disciples said, "We are the helpers of Allah." Then a group of Children of Israel believed and a group disbelieved. So We supported those who believed against their enemy and they became dominant (zahirina).
(The word “zahirina” (translated as “dominant”) could imply that a group of the Children of Israel became distinguished / came out from another group of the Children of Israel, because the root of “zahirina” (“dominant”) is “Za-ha-Ra”, and it means “to appear, become distinct / clear / open / manifest, come out, distinguish, be obvious, go forth, etc.”. So, according to the root, it does not mean “dominant”, nor is it in a sense of prevailing)(The context of the Verse is that one group believed and another group disbelieved, so they became distinguished (different) in regard to belief, at that time, which is a fact, regardless of whether the future Christians were going to become Pauline Christians or not, because the Verse only refers to the time of Jesus. So, the Qur’an is correct)(Another point is that the Verse only refers to the Children of Israel, rather than to the gentiles. Notice that the Verse explicitly says, “Then a group of Children of Israel believed and a group disbelieved. So ….”. So, the Verse does not refer to gentiles or Paul, but early Christians were Jewish people, and their religion so-called branch of Judaism)(Allah knows best)
48:28 He is the One Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion, the true that He may make it prevail (liyuz’hirahu) over all the religions. And Allah is sufficient as a Witness.
5:72 They certainly disbelieve who say, "Indeed Allah - He is the Messiah, the son of Mary." While the Messiah said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates partners with Allah, then surely Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and his abode will be the Fire. And there will be no helpers for the wrongdoers.
(Jesus was only sent to the Children of Israel. Paul contradicted Jesus, by wrongly trying to convert Gentiles to “(Pauline) Christianity”. Verse 61:14 explicitly only refers to Children of Israel. Matthew 15:24 also confirms it, saying about Jesus, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel”. So, the gentiles or non-descendants of Israel are not to be involved, but over the centuries the Gentiles wrongly took it as their own)(According to the article “Split of early Christianity and Judaism” in Wikipedia, it says that “it is difficult to trace the process by which the two separated or to know exactly when this began. Jewish Christians continued to worship in synagogues for centuries”. So, even if “zahirina” in Verse 61:14 were to imply “dominance”, the Qur’an is correct, because early Christians were able to go to synagogues, which implies that they were strong to the point that Jews could not prevent them from going to synagogues)(According to Shaye J.D.Cohen, “the separation of Christianity from Judaism was a process, not an event, in which the church more and more gentile, and less and less Jewish. Early Christianity ceased to be Jewish sect when it ceased to observe Jewish practices”)(In conclusion, Verse 61:14 refers to those early Christians, at the time of Jesus, who “came out / were distinct in belief” from the Children of Israel, regardless of whether Pauline Christians were going to outnumber them after centuries or not)(Notice that according to Shaye J.D.Cohen, the early Christians practiced the law, which was confirmed and also practiced by Jesus, while Paul opposed to it)(Allah knows best)
5:17 They have certainly disbelieved who said, "Indeed, Allah, He is the Messiah, the son of Mary." Say, "Then who has the power against Allah in anything if He intends to destroy the Messiah, the son of Mary, and his mother and everyone on the earth?" And for Allah is the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between both of them. He creates what He wills, and Allah is on everything All-Powerful.
(Paul was a trinitarian Christian; Trinitarians are disbelievers (5:17). Verse 61:14 specifies that the group of the Children of Israel who become “dominant” were believers (61:14), so Paul did not belong to that group, but he was of the persecutors, and a disbeliever, even after becoming a “Christian”)(Another point is that Paul tells indirectly in Colossians that he was born in a much later generation than the time of Jesus, so it confirms that Paul never met Jesus. Colossians 1:25-6 says, “I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness- the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people.”. On the other hand, Galatians 1:11-12 say, “I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. I did not receive it from any human, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ”. It refers to the account in Acts, where he reported having experienced a vision of the resurrected Jesus; so he didn’t even meet Jesus, but it was a fabricated dream; Galatians 1:20 says, “I assure you before God that what I am writing you is not a lie”, so both Jews and Gentiles were in doubt about it, and he tried to convince them. And both Jews and Gentiles were in doubt / did not believe in Jesus being killed and crucified, because Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1:23, “but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,”; so it is not a new matter invented by Muslims; so the Qur’an is correct by saying in Verse 4:157, about crucifixion, that, “indeed, those who differ in it are surely in doubt about it”)(Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:22, “Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom”; so Jesus came with signs, but Paul was not a messenger, he had no authority, nor did he come with signs)(Another point is that Christians are called “Nazarenes” in the Qur’an, and this word is also used in Acts of the Apostles 24:5, where Paul the Apostle is accused of being a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. This matter is not telling that the real Christians are the Pauline Christians, because, firstly, Paul was not an apostle of Jesus, according to Paul himself. And, obviously, the term “Nazarenes” is not about Pauline Christianity, but the earlier Christians were called “Nazarenes” as a sect within “Judaism”, and it also refers to the later ones (e.g. Paul) who differed from Jesus (e.g. Verse 9:30 of the Qur’an calls “Nazarenes” to Trinitarians, who are disbelievers (5:73)). So, the term Nazarene is used as a general term, for “Christian”, in opposition to those Jews who do not believe in Jesus, within Judaism. So, “Christian” in English correspond to “Nazarene” in Arabic and Hebrew languages. The term “Christian” was invented later, and is not even mentioned in the Gospels)(Allah knows best)
4:157 And for their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him nor did they crucify him; but it was made to appear so to them. And indeed, those who differ in it are surely in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And certainly they did not kill him.
(Paul’s writings emphasized the crucifixion, but, in regard to crucifixion, Jesus was the one to be saved, not mankind)(See the articles below: “Did Jesus die for the sins of mankind?” and “Is it “satanic” to deny the crucifixion (according to the Bible)?”)(Allah knows best)
16:64 And We have not revealed to you the Book except that you make clear to them that in which they differed, and as a guidance and mercy for a people who believe.
9:8 How while, if they gain dominance (yazharu) over you, they do not regard (the ties of) kinship with you or covenant of protection? They satisfy you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse, and most of them are defiantly disobedient. … 9:13 Will you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to drive out the Messenger and they began (to attack) you the first time? Do you fear them? But Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are believers.
(Verse 9:8 confirms that “zahirina” (dominant) could also be in the context of fighting. If the two groups fought, it is a fact that Jesus’ enemies failed to stop people believing in Jesus at that time)(This interpretation could be plausible according to the Gospel, because there are verses in the Gospel in regard to “fighting”: according to Matthew 10:34, Jesus said “do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword”; according to Luke 22:36, Jesus said “And if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one”; according to Luke 14:26, Jesus said “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple”; according to Luke 19:27, Jesus told a violent parable, “but those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me”)(In conclusion, Verse 61:14 is correct whether you interpret it one way or another)(See the article below: “Does Jesus love you? Does Jesus love his enemies?”)(Allah knows best)
3:55 When Allah said "O Jesus, indeed, I (will) take you and raise you to Myself, and purify you from those who disbelieve, and I will make those who follow you superior (fawqa) to those who disbelieve on (ila) the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me (is) your return and I will judge between you concerning that about which you were differing.
(Verse 3:55 refers to the Day of Resurrection. That Day, those who follow Jesus will be superior to those who disbelieve. Muslims are the true followers of Jesus because they do what Jesus did, so “those who follow you” does not refer to, for example, Trinitarian Christians)("Muslim" is an Arabic word meaning "one who submits (to God)", so, by definition, Jesus, and all Messengers, and their real followers were Muslims / Submitted to God)(The word “ila” (on) is also interpreted as “till / to”, so that the real followers of Jesus will be “superior / above / over / more” than those who disbelieve, “before” the Day of Resurrection. This Verse might be explained by the next one: Verse 3:56 says, “Then as for those who disbelieve[d], then I will punish them (with) a severe punishment in the/(this) world and (in) the Hereafter”. So, in the matter of punishment, those who disbelieve will be punished, while those who believe in Jesus (e.g. Muslims, early Christians) are above that rank: they are not punished)(Allah knows best)
58:12 O you who believe, when you privately consult the Messenger, then offer (in) charity before your private consultation. That (is) better and purer for you. But if you do not find, then indeed, Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ... 58:20 Indeed, those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, those (will be) among the most humiliated. 58:21 Allah has decreed, "Surely, I will overcome (la-aghlibanna), I and My Messengers." Indeed, Allah (is) All-Strong, All-Mighty. 58:22 You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those - He has decreed faith in their hearts and supported them with a spirit from Him. And He will admit them to Gardens underneath which rivers flow, they will abide in it forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. They are the party of Allah. No doubt, indeed, the party of Allah, they are the successful ones.
(Verse 58:21 uses the word “aghliba” (overcome); it’s root is “Gh-Lam-Ba”, and it means “overcame, conquered, subdued, mastered, surpassed, superior in power or force, gain victory”)(Verse 7:119 uses this same root word, and proves that a certain word does not necessarily imply, for example, fighting in a war, but depends on the context, because Verse 7:119 is not about fighting)(Verse 61:14 uses a different root (“Za-ha-Ra”), and the context of Verse is “faith / belief”)(Allah knows best)
7:117 And We inspired to Moses that, "Throw your staff," and suddenly it swallow(ed) what they (were) falsifying. 7:118 So the truth was established, and what they used to do became futile. 7:119 So they were defeated (faghulibu) there and returned humiliated. 7:120 And the magicians fell down prostrate. 7:121 They said, "We believe in (the) Lord (of) the worlds 7:122 Lord of Moses and Aaron." 7:123 Pharaoh said, "You believed in him before I give you permission. Indeed, this is surely a plot you have plotted it in the city so that you may drive out its people from it. But soon you will know. 7:124 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet of the opposite (sides). Then I will surely crucify you all."
3:84 Say, "We believed in Allah and what is revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the descendants and what was given to Moses, and Jesus, and the Prophets from their Lord. We do not make distinction between any of them and to Him we are submissive/Muslims.
(“Islam” is an Arabic word meaning “submission (to God)”, that’s the religion preached by Jesus and all Messengers; according to Luke 22:42, Jesus said “yet not my will, but yours be done”. And "Muslim" is an Arabic word meaning "one who submits (to God)", so, by definition, Jesus and all Messengers were Muslims / Submitted to God)(Allah knows best)
5:111 And when I inspired to the disciples to believe in Me and in My Messenger they said, "We believe and bear witness that indeed we are Muslims.
4:171 O People of the Book, do not commit excess in your religion and do not say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Glory be to Him, that He (should) have a son for Him. To Him whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.
35:18 And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And if a heavily laden calls to carry its load, nothing of it will be carried, even if he be a near of kin. You can only warn those who fear their Lord - unseen and establish the prayer. And whoever purifies himself, then only he purifies for his own self. And to Allah is the destination.
(The sentence “by grace you have been saved, through faith” (Ephesians 2:8) was said by Paul, not by Jesus. The early Christians followed the law, but Paul opposed Jesus by preaching that you do not have to follow the law. Pauline Christians think that they would be saved by grace through faith alone, regardless of their deeds, while according to James 2:14-26, “faith without works is dead”; according to Matthew 5:17, Jesus confirmed the Law, “do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them”; according to Matthew 23:2-3, “the teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.”; according to Acts 15:5 and 15:20, early Christians followed the Law, etc. So, Pauline Christians are not true followers of Jesus)(Another point is that Paul contradicts himself in the matter of carrying someone’s burdens (Galatians 6:2 vs. Galatians 6:5))(According to Acts 11:26, the disciples were called “Christians” first in Antioch, so the word “Christian” was invented because it is not mentioned in any of the four Gospels)(The word “Christian” is not used in the Qur’an; the literal translation of the Arabic word is “Nazarenes” ((followers of) the Nazarene))(Allah knows best)
4:123 Neither your desire nor the desire of the People of the Book. Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it, and he will not find besides Allah any protector or any helper.
5:68 Say, "O People of the Book, you are not on anything until you stand firmly by the Torah and the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord. And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people.
17:15 Whoever is guided then is only guided for his soul. And whoever goes astray then only goes astray against it. And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And We will not punish until We have sent a Messenger.
(The concept of Jesus dying for your sins is not supported in the Torah, Gospel or the Qur’an)(Allah knows best)
3:85 And whoever seeks other than Islam as religion - then never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be from the losers.
(The Qur’an does not confirm Pauline Christianity at all. “Islam” is an Arabic word meaning “submission (to God)”; that’s the religion preached by all Messengers. According to Luke 22:42, Jesus said, “yet not my will, but yours be done”)(Allah knows best)
2:135 And they said, "Be Jews or Christians, then you will be guided." Say, "Nay, the religion of Abraham, the upright; and he was not of those who associated partners."
2:111 And they said, "None will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian." That is their wishful thinking. Say, "Bring your proof if you are truthful."
2:120 And the Jews and the Christians will never be pleased with you until you follow their religion. Say, "Indeed, the Guidance of Allah is the Guidance." And if you follow their desires after what has come to you of the knowledge, you will have neither any protector from Allah nor any helper.
2:94 Say, "If the home of the Hereafter with Allah is exclusively for you, and not for others of mankind, then wish for death, if you are truthful."
5:18 And the Jews and the Christians said "We are the children of Allah and His beloved." Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins?" Nay, you are human beings from among those He created. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And for Allah is the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and to Him is the final return.
(God creates, He does not beget His creation)(According to Verse 9:30, the concept “son of God” is not from God, but from those who disbelieved before)(Allah knows best)
29:47 And thus We have revealed to you the Book. So those to whom We gave the Book believe in it. And among these are some who believe in it. And none reject Our Verses except the disbelievers.
(Christians are required to follow the Qur’an. Those who reject the Qur’an are disbelievers (29:47)(i.e. Pauline Christians))(Allah knows best)
57:27 Then We sent Our Messengers on their footsteps and We followed with Jesus, son of Mary, and We gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy. But the monasticism they innovated - We did not prescribe it for them - only seeking the pleasure of Allah, but they did not observe it with right observance. So We gave those who believed among them their reward, but most of them are defiantly disobediently.
(Christians / Paul are the ones who oppose the religion, and they invent concepts that are not in the Bible)(Paul also blasphemed in 1 Corinthians 1:25, saying “foolishness” and “weakness”. There is no any foolishness or weakness in God, (Glory be to Allah above what they attribute), but God is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise (14:4))(God does not guide the wrongdoing people (46:10))(Allah knows best)
9:31 They have taken their rabbis and their monks and the Messiah, son of Mary, as Lords besides Allah. And they were not commanded except to worship One God. There is no god except Him. Glory be to Him from what they associate.
(Jesus did not follow any rabbi, monk or Pope)(Christians should not follow Paul, because they are required to submit to God (aka to be Muslims))(Allah knows best)
28:35 He said, "We will strengthen your arm through your brother and We will make for both of you an authority, so they will not reach both of you. Through Our Signs, you two and (those) who follow you (will) be the dominant (l-ghalibuna)."
(Verse 28:35 uses a word translated as “dominant”, but it has a root other than the root of “dominant” used in Verse 61:14. And it is about Moses and Aaron)(The root of “ghalibuna” (dominant) is “Gh-Lam-Ba”, and it means “overcame, conquered, subdued, mastered, surpassed, superior in power or force, gain victory”)(It is interpreted that Verse 28:35 refers to the time of Moses, because it says, “We will make for both of you an authority, so they will not reach both of you”, and “through Our Signs, you two...”)(Jews are not the true followers of Moses anymore. See the links below, “How the Qur’an corrects Judaism?”, “Is the Bible corrupted?” and “Does the Qur'an and the Jewish Bible say that Palestine/Israel belongs to the Muslims or to the Jews?”)(Allah knows best)
3:98 Say, "O People of the Book, why do you disbelieve in the Verses of Allah, while Allah is a Witness over what you do?" … 3:100 O you who believe, if you obey a group from those who were given the Book they will turn you back, after your belief, (as) disbelievers.
(Verses 3:98 and 3:100 suggest that Christians and Jews were disbelievers at the time of Prophet Muhammad (and after him, except those who converted to Islam))(Allah knows best)
