Is stoning supported in the Qur'an?
24:2 The adulteress/fornicatress and the adulterer/fornicator, flog each of them with hundred lashes. And (let) not withhold you pity for them concerning the religion of Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.
(The adulterers or fornicators are not sentenced to death or stoning, but to lashes)(Some non-Muslims argue that the lashes would kill them, but killing them is not explicitly said in the Qur’an, nor if lashes are strong, or soft enough to survive, etc.)(Allah knows best)
4:15 And those who commit immorality from your women, then bring against them four witnesses from among you. And if they testify, then confine them in their houses until death comes to them or Allah makes for them a way. 4:16 And the two among you who commit it, then punish both of them. But if they repent and correct themselves, then turn away from both of them. Indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful. 4:17 The repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do evil in ignorance, then they repent soon after. Then it is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
(In Verse 4:15, they are not sentenced to death, so, “until death comes to them” indicates that they are confined forever, unless they repent and correct themselves in order to get a way out (4:16))(One interpretation is that, because Verse 4:15 only refers to women, it is an immorality in which men is not involved. And Verse 4:16 uses words in masculine dual, so women is not involved. So, Chapters 4 and 24 refer to different matters)(In regard to the punishment in Verses 4:15 and 4:16, there is no a different punishment for women and men because Verse 4:16 does not specify any punishment, so according to the context, it is the same punishment for men and for women (confined in their houses), because the Verses of the Qur’an complement each other. There is no mention of stoning)(So, Verses 4:15-16 include other cases, not included in Verse 24:2, for example homosexuality. This is supported by Verses 27:54-55, in which homosexuality is considered an “immorality” (not adultery). Then, according to this interpretation, the flogging is only in case of zina (adultery / fornication))(Allah knows best)
19:46 He said, "Do you hate my gods, O Abraham? Surely, if you do not desist, I will surely stone you, so leave me for a prolonged time."
(Abraham was threatened with stoning by his father. So, the disbeliever is the one who threatened with stoning, because the believer opposed the religion of his father)(Allah knows best)
36:18 They said, "Indeed, we see an evil omen from you. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you a painful punishment from us." 36:19 They said, "Your evil omen be with you, is it because you are admonished? Nay, you are a transgressing people."
(Messengers were threatened with stoning. So, the transgressors were the ones who wanted to stone)(Allah knows best)
44:20 And indeed, I seek refuge with my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 44:21 And if you do not believe me, then leave me alone."
(The Messenger was threatened with stoning)(Allah knows best)
18:20 "Indeed, if they come to know about you, they will stone you or return you to their religion. And then never will you succeed - ever."
(Muslims were threatened with stoning)(Non-Muslims were the ones who wanted to stone or force people into their religion)(Allah knows best)
26:116 They said, "If you (do) not desist, O Nuh/(Noah), surely, you will be of those who are stoned.”
89:3 And the even and the odd,
(Some people wrongly say that there are Verses missing from the Qur’an, for example, the so-called “stoning verse”, while there is no any single missing or omitted verse from the Qur’an. The proof that the Qur’an has been preserved and there are no missing or omitted verses is that: the Qur’an has 114 Chapters. The sum of chapters’ numbers in the Qur’an (Hafs) is 6,555. The total number of Verses is 6,236. When it is added each Chapter’s number with its Verses’ total, the sum of the odd results is 6,555. That’s the same number than the sum of chapters’ numbers: 6,555. And when it is added each Chapter’s number with its Verses’ total, the sum of the even results is 6,236; that’s the same number than the total number of Verses in the Qur’an: 6,236. So, the numbers match)(In addition, the resulting odd numbers are 57; and the resulting even numbers are 57 as well)(The result is not a coincidence, but there was a purpose to make it so. If someone were to add or subtract a verse, then an odd number would be even, or an even number would be odd, then the whole analysis would be wrong)(See the calculations in the article below: “Even and odd numbers in the Qur’an”)(Allah knows best)
2:79 So woe to those who write the book with their hands, then they say, "This is from Allah," to exchange it for a little price. So woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn.
(In regard to Christianity, it was said that Jesus abolished in the New Testament the stoning “ordered” in the Old Testament, in which a woman was not stoned after being caught in adultery (John 7:53-8:11). But that story in John 7:53-8:11 is not found in the oldest Bible sources - It is not found in Papyrus 66 and papyrus 75 (late 100s or early 200s), nor in Codex Sinaiticus and Vaticanus (early/mid 300s). But it is found in a later manuscript for the first time: Codex Bezae (400s or 500s), which was made in Europe (This is confirmed by the reference/s quoted in the article “Jesus and the woman taken in adultery” in Wikipedia). So the story was invented by European Christians and added to the New Testament 400 or 500 years after Jesus)(So, stoning is supported in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 21:18-21 and Leviticus 24:16), and is implicitly supported in the New Testament, because according to Matthew 5:17, Jesus confirmed the Law: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them”; and according to James 2:14-26 “faith without works is dead”; and according to Matthew 23:2-3 “the teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.”; according to Acts 15:5 and 15:20, early Christians followed the Law)(Other verses in the sense of violence in the New Testament: according to Matthew 10:34, Jesus said “do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword”; according to Luke 22:36, Jesus said “And if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one”; according to Luke 14:26, Jesus said, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple”; according to Luke 19:27, Jesus told a violent parable “but those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me”)(Allah knows best)
1:2 All praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds
(Another proof that the number of Chapters and Verses remained unaltered in the Qur’an: The first two pages of the Qur’an are the only pages in the entire Qur’an with decoration, the first page has 141 letters (Verses 1:1 to 1:7), and the second page has 178 letters (from Bismillah in Chapter 2 to Verse 2:5). The two pages have 141 + 178 = 319 letters; the sum of Chapter numbers – Sum of Verses = 6555 – 6236 = 319)(In addition, the Qur’an has 114 Chapters; there are five “Chapter + Verses = 114”, these are: Chapter 15 + 99 Verses = 114; Chapter 39 + 75 Verses = 114; Chapter 70 + 44 Verses = 114; Chapter 88 + 26 Verses = 114; and Chapter 107 + 7 Verses = 114. The sum of these Chapters’ number is: 15 + 39 + 70 + 88 + 107 = 319)(Note: Verse 1:1 has 19 letters; 1:2 has 17; 1:3 has 12; 1:4 has 11; 1:5 has 19; 1:6 has 19; and 1:7 has 44 = 141)(Note: Bismillah has 19 letters, Verse 2:1 has 3; Verse 2:2 has 26; Verse 2:3 has 46; Verse 2:4 has 52; Verse 2:5 has 32 = 178)(See the link below “Correspondence between Chapter numbers and number of Verses”)(Allah knows best)
(And another proof that the number of Chapters and Verses remained unaltered in the Qur’an: If the results of the sum “Chapter+Verse” are divided into duplicate and unique numbers, we can obtain the golden ratio)(According to the article “What is the golden ratio?” in “canva(dot)com”, “The Golden Ratio exists when a line is divided into two parts and the longer part (a) divided by the smaller part (b) is equal to the sum of (a) + (b) divided by (a), which both equal 1.618”)(In the Qur’an, if the results of “Chapter+Verse” are divided into duplicate and unique numbers, the sum of duplicate numbers is 7906, and the sum of unique numbers is 4885; the division of these two numbers is the golden ratio = 7906 / 4885 = 1.618; and the sum of these two numbers, divided by the larger number is also the golden ratio = (7906 + 4885) / 7906 = 1.618)(See the calculations in the article below “Golden ratio in the Qur’an?”)(Allah knows best)
4:25 And whoever among you is not able to marry free chaste believing women, then from those whom you rightfully possess of believing slave girls. And Allah knows all about your faith. You are of one another. So marry them with the permission of their family and give them their bridal due in a fair manner. Chaste, not those who commit immorality and not those who take secret lovers. Then when they are married, then if they commit adultery, then their punishment is half of that which is for free chaste women. That is for whoever among you who fears committing sin, and to be patient is better for you. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
