Is there “honor killing” in the Qur’an, as there is in the Bible?
3:135 And those when they did immorality or wronged themselves - they remember Allah then ask forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive the sins except Allah? And they do not persist in what they did while they know.
(In Christianity and Judaism, there is honor killing, the adulterers are “to be put to death” (Leviticus 20:10-11); and also anyone who curses their parents is to be put to death (Exodus 21:17, Leviticus 20:9); and a priest’s daughter must be burned to death if she defiles herself (Leviticus 21:9); and those who has sexual relations with an animal are to be put to death (Leviticus 20:15); “if a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads” (Leviticus 20:13); “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men” (1 Corinthians 6:9); “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable” (Leviticus 18:22))(Over time, it was falsely said that these rules are only for Jews, and that Christians (gentile ones) do not have to follow the law, but Jesus confirmed the Law (Matthew 5:17), and Jesus was only sent to the Children of Israel (Matthew 15:24), not to the gentiles, and early Christians followed the Law (Acts 15:5, 15:20). And, for example, the story of the woman caught in adultery in John 7:53-8:11, to abolish stoning, is not found in the early sources, but it is only found for the first time in a Bible made in Europe (Italy, France), so its source was an European innovation)(See the links below, “Is salvation obtained by grace through Faith alone or also by works, following the law?”, “Is the Bible corrupted?” and “Which religion is moderate and which is extreme? Who are the radicals? Judaism vs. Christianity vs. Islam vs. atheism”)(Allah knows best)
24:2 The adulteress/fornicatress and the adulterer/fornicator, flog each of them with hundred lashes. And (let) not withhold you pity for them concerning the religion of Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment. … 24:4 And those who accuse chaste women, then they do not bring four witnesses, then flog them with eighty lashes and (wa) never accept their testimony. And (wa) those, they are the defiantly disobedient, 24:5 Except those who repent after that and reform. Then indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(In the Qur’an, the adulterers or fornicators are not sentenced to death, but to flogging (24:2). It is alleged that the flogging could kill a person, but these Verses do not explicitly say that they have to be killed; and these Verses do not say that the flogging cannot be done in a way that they are not killed (e.g. the Qur’an does not say if lashes are all in one session, or are strong or soft, etc.))(Are the adulterers and fornicators to be punished whether they repent or not? Verse 4:18 says, “And the repentance is not accepted from those who do evil deeds (l-sayiati) until when death is present to one of them”; so they can repent as long as they are alive. The root of “sayiati” (evil deeds) is “Siin-Waw-Alif”, and it means “sin, evil doer, bad action, do evil to disgrace, etc.”. So, Verse 4:18 could also imply that adultery/fornication might be forgiven in this world)(The adulterers/fornicators and those who accuse chaste women have the same punishment: lashes. It might implicitly suggest that adulterers/fornicators could be forgiven the same way than those who accuse chaste women. In regard to those who accuse chaste women, Verse 24:4 says, “and never accept their testimony”; this sentence uses the word “wa” (and) which is non-sequential, so it is a new sentence; it is interpreted that their testimony is not to be accepted anyhow, unless they bring four witnesses. Verse 24:5 says, “except those who repent after that and reform”; “after that” refers to “after their testimony or accusation or disobedience”, because the last sentence in Verse 24:4 uses “wa” which is non-sequential, and Verse 24:5 starts with “except”, so Verse 24:5 refers to the last sentence in Verse 24:4. So, it does not refer to “after being flogged”, so there is a way out from the punishment)(Allah knows best)
4:15 And those who commit immorality from your women, then bring against them four witnesses from among you. And if they testify, then confine them in their houses until death comes to them or Allah makes for them a way. 4:16 And the two among you who commit it, then punish both of them. But if they repent and correct themselves, then turn away from both of them. Indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful. 4:17 The repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do evil in ignorance, then they repent soon after. Then it is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. 4:18 And the repentance is not accepted from those who do evil deeds until when death is present to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I repent now;" nor for those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.
(In Verse 4:15, they are not sentenced to death, so, “until death comes to them” indicates that they are confined forever, unless they repent and correct themselves in order to get a way out (4:16). Confining them in their houses would stop the immorality. There is no mention of stoning)(Verses 4:15-16 include other cases, not included in Verse 24:2, for example homosexuality, because Verse 4:15 only refers to women, it is an immorality in which men is not involved. On the other hand, Verse 4:16 uses words in masculine dual, so women is not involved. Verses 27:54-55 support that homosexuality is considered an “immorality” (not adultery). Then, according to this interpretation, the flogging is only in case of zina (adultery / fornication), which involves a man and a woman)(Allah knows best)
3:90 Indeed, those who disbelieved after their belief then they increased in disbelief, their repentance will never be accepted, and those - they are the ones who have gone astray.
(The apostates are not sentenced to death in the Qur’an. There is freedom of religion in Islam. See the link below, “Is there freedom of religion in Islam?”)(In Judaism and Christianity, those who entice to apostasy are put to death (Deuteronomy 13:6-9). In Deuteronomy 21:18-21, the stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and so is to be stoned. On the other hand, the Qur’an says, “do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites” (33:48), and (in regard to your parents), “if they strive against you that you associate partners with Me of what you have no any knowledge, then do not obey both of them” (31:15))(Allah knows best)
16:106 Whoever disbelieves in Allah after his belief, except (one) who is forced while his heart is content with faith. But those who open (their) breast to disbelief, then upon them is wrath of Allah, and for them is a punishment great.
(There is no any Verse in the Qur’an that says that that punishment is to be done by Muslims. In regard to the hadith, it cannot contradict the Qur’an. The Messenger did not make rules (5:4, 4:176, 4:127, 42:10), but followed what is revealed to him (46:9, 75:18-19, 7:2-3, 7:203-204))(Allah knows best)
4:137 Indeed, those who believed, then disbelieved, then believed, then disbelieved, then increased in disbelief – Allah will not forgive them, nor will guide them to a way.
33:28 O Prophet, say to your wives, "If you desire the life of the world and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and release you with a good release.
(There is freedom of religion in Islam)(Allah knows best)
18:29 And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe and whoever wills - let him disbelieve." Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a Fire, its walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like molten brass, which scalds the faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.
42:15 So to that then invite, and stand firm as you are commanded and do not follow their desires, but say, "I believe in what Allah has sent down of the Book, and I am commanded to do justice between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds and for you your deeds. There is no argument between us and between you. Allah will assemble us, and to Him is the final return."
28:55 And when they hear vain talk, they turn away from it and say, "For us are our deeds and for you are your deeds. Peace be on you; we do not seek the ignorant."
39:15 So worship what you will besides Him." Say, "Indeed, the losers are those who (will) lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, that is the clear loss."
50:45 We know best what they say, and you are not the one to compel them. But remind with the Qur’an whoever fears My threat.
10:99 And if your Lord had willed, those who are on the earth all of them would surely have believed. Then, will you compel mankind until they become believers? 10:100 And it is not for a soul to believe except by the permission of Allah. And He will place the wrath on those who do not use reason.
10:41 And if they deny you then say, "For me are my deeds, and for you are your deeds. You are disassociated from what I do, and I am disassociated from what you do."
81:27 It is not except a reminder to the worlds, 81:28 For whoever wills among you to take a straight way.
3:86 How (shall) Allah guide a people (who) disbelieved after their belief and (had) witnessed that the Messenger is true, and clear proofs came to them? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. 3:87 Those - their recompense is that on them is the curse of Allah and the Angels and the people, all together.
31:15 And if they strive against you that you associate partners with Me of what you have no any knowledge, then do not obey both of them. And accompany them with kindness in the world, and follow the path (of him) who turns to Me. Then towards Me is your return, then I will inform you of what you used to do"
33:48 And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and disregard their harm, and put your trust in Allah. And sufficient is Allah as a Trustee.
2:109 Many of the People of the Book wish they could turn you back to disbelief after your faith, (out of) jealousy from themselves, after the truth became clear to them. So forgive and overlook until Allah brings His Command. Indeed, Allah is All-Powerful over everything.
2:256 There is no compulsion in the religion. Surely the right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in false deities and believes in Allah has grasped the firm handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
109:6 For you is your religion, and for me is my religion."
17:107 Say, "Believe in it or do not believe. Indeed, those who were given the knowledge before it, when it is recited to them, they fall on their faces in prostration."
