Do Muslims observe the Sabbath? Do Muslims work on Fridays?
16:123 Then We revealed to you to follow the religion of Abraham, upright; and he was not of those who associate." 16:124 The Sabbath was only appointed for those who differed in it. And indeed, your Lord will surely judge between them on the Day of Resurrection in that over which they used to differ.
(Muslims follow the religion of Abraham, so they leave trade on Friday (62:9). Verses 16:123-124 implicitly say that Friday was appointed for the Jews too, because Verse 16:124 says that the Sabbath was only appointed for those who differed in “it”; according to the context, “it” refers to “following the religion of Abraham” (16:123), so, they differed in/from following the religion of Abraham, then they were burdened with the sabbath)(Allah knows best)
62:9 O you who believe, when the call is made for the prayer on the day of Friday, then hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave the business. That is better for you, if you know. 62:10 Then when the prayer is concluded, then (fa) disperse in the land and (wa) seek from (the) Bounty of Allah, and (wa) remember Allah much so that you may succeed.
(One interpretation is that it is not forbidden working on Fridays, because, according to the Verse, Muslims must leave trade once the call is made, so that is within Friday. In other words, if they cease trade when the call is made, it means that they were working at that time and day. On the other hand, when the prayer is concluded, Verse 62:10 does not say that you cannot go back to work, but says that “then (fa) disperse in the land”, so it suggest that each person goes about his own business. “Fa” indicates that dispersing occurs immediately after praying. On the other hand, “wa” (and) in Verse 62:10 does not indicate order or timing in regard to the previous sentence, so it is not to be done “immediately after” praying)(Allah knows best)
4:160 Then for the wrongdoing of those who were Jews, We made unlawful for them good things which had been lawful for them, and for their hindering many from the way of Allah.
7:157 Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find written with them in the Torah and the Gospel. He commands them to the right and forbids them from the wrong, and he makes lawful for them the pure things and makes unlawful for them the impure things and he relieves them of their burden and the fetters which were upon them. So those who believe in him, and honor him, and help him and follow the light, which has been sent down with him, those are the successful ones."
(The Jews are required to follow Islam / the Qur’an. See the link below “Do the Jews have to follow the Qur’an / Islam?” and “Is Muhammad mentioned in the Bible?”)(The Messenger relieves people of their burden and fetters (7:157). In that sense, the law was more severe for the Jews because of their wrongdoing, so the Qur’an relieves them)(See the link below “How the Qur’an corrects Judaism?”)(Those who deny the Verses of the Qur’an are disbelievers (2:91, 52:33-34, 46:10, 10:95-97, 23:38-39, 40:70))(Allah knows best)
4:47 O you who (have) been given the Book, believe in what We (have) revealed confirming what is with you, before We efface faces and turn them on their backs or We curse them as We cursed companions of the Sabbath. And the command of Allah is executed.
(According to Verse 4:47, Jews and Christians have to believe in the Qur’an, so they have to follow the religion of Abraham. The companions of the Sabbath were cursed before, because they differed in/from the religion of Abraham)(Allah knows best)
24:36 In houses (which) Allah ordered that they/(to) be raised and His name be mentioned in them/(therein). Glorify [to] Him in them/(therein) in the mornings and (in) the evenings. 24:37 Men (whom) neither trade nor sale distracts them from (the) remembrance of Allah and (from) establishing the prayer and giving zakah. They fear a Day in which the hearts and the eyes will turn about.
