How can the scholars say that noor is reflected light when Allah is the noor?

24:35 Allah (is the) Light (nuru) of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a brilliant star lit from a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, its oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.

(Some non-Muslims object that the Qur’an says that God is the Light (24:35), while Verse 71:15 uses the same word (“nur”) in regard to the moon, which is interpreted as “reflected light”. The answer to that objection is that the root of nur is “Nun-Waw-Ra”, and it means “light (nur), fire (nar), shine (munir), etc.”; so it does not mean “reflected light”, but just “light (nur)”. Actually, the Verses of the Qur’an which tell that the moon is a reflected light are Verses 91:1-2, not Verse 71:15. See the comment below on Verses 91:1-2)(In Verse 24:35, the example of God’s light is like a “lamp” and “brilliant star”, not like a “reflected light”. The word “lamp” is used in the Qur’an in regard to the sun, not in regard to the moon, see this distinction in the comment below, on Verse 71:15)(So, the scholars say “reflected light”, only in regard to the moon, according to their knowledge of science, not according to the meaning of the word “nur”)(According to Verse 6:1, God “made” the light (nura); and in Verse 24:35, there is an example of His light. Verse 24:35 literally says “Allah, Light of the heavens and the earth”, because He “made” the light. “Lamp” and “brilliant star” are examples of His light. Notice that the Verse does not even say that “Allah is the Light”, but says “Allah, Light of the...”, and “His Light”)(The Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive but complement each other)(Another interpretation is that “being the Light” refers to Guidance. Verse 4:174 says, “O mankind, surely a convincing proof has come to you from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light (nuran).”. 91:1 By the sun and its brightness, 91:2 And the moon when it follows it (talaha), 91:3 And the day when it displays it, 91:4 And the night when it covers it,

(The word “talaha” (it follows it)(91:2), in the context of “book”, means “read” or “recite” (e.g. “while you recite (tatluna) the Book” (2:44)). According to the context, the moon follows / reads / recites the sun’s brightness (91:2); it implies that the light of the moon is a reflected light; the moon does not have its own light, because the moon “reads” the light / brightness of the sun (91:1-2). Similarly, people who is in darkness (fig. the moon), they may be enlightened by the enlightening Book (fig. the sun) (14:1, 22:8))(So, the Qur’an is in accordance with science)(Allah knows best)

71:15 Do you not see how Allah has created the seven heavens in layers, 71:16 And made the moon therein a light (nuran) and made the sun a lamp (sirajan)?

(This Verse makes distinction between moon (nuran / light) and sun (sirajan / lamp). So, the sun and the moon are not equal)(Allah knows best)

10:5 He is the One Who made the sun a shining light (diyaan), and the moon a (reflected) light (nuran) and determined for it phases, that you may know the number of years and the count (of time). Allah has not created that except in truth. He explains the Signs for a people who know.

(“nuran” means “light”, not “reflected light”, so the word “reflected” is between brackets in some translations / interpretations. Notice the distinction between sun and moon in the Qur’an, so the sun and the moon are not equal. The word “diyaan” is used for the sun, and the word “nuran” is used for the moon)(Allah knows best)

6:1 (All) the praises and thanks (be) to Allah, the One Who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light (wal-nura). Then those who disbelieved in their Lord equate others with Him.

112:1 Say, "He is Allah, the One. ... 112:4 And nor is there to Him any equivalent."

(There is an “example” of His Light for the people in Verse 24:35. On the other hand, there is no any equivalent to Him (112:4). The Creator is not His creation)(Allah knows best)
