How to obtain forgiveness? Does God forgive all sins? Will you be punished for your sins?

7:153 And those who do evil deeds then repented after that and believed, indeed, after that your Lord is surely Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

3:135 And those when they did immorality or wronged themselves - they remember Allah then ask forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive the sins except Allah? And they do not persist in what they did while they know.

11:90 And ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. Indeed, my Lord is Most Merciful, Most Loving."

110:3 Then glorify your Lord with the praises and ask His forgiveness. Indeed, He is Oft-Returning.

71:10 Then I said, "Ask forgiveness from your Lord. Indeed, He is Oft-Forgiving.

7:23 Both of them said "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers."

61:10 O you who believe, shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful punishment? 61:11 Believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the way of Allah with your wealth and your lives. That is better for you, if you know. 61:12 He will forgive for you your sins and admit you into Gardens underneath which rivers flow and pleasant dwellings in Gardens of Eternity. That is the great success.

47:2 And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition.

5:9 Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them there is forgiveness and great reward.

(You have to believe to obtain forgiveness. Those who deny the Verses of the Qur’an are disbelievers (84:22, 2:91, 52:33-34, 46:10, 10:95-97, 23:38-39, 40:70))(Allah knows best)

5:72 They certainly disbelieve who say, "Indeed Allah - He is the Messiah, the son of Mary." While the Messiah said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates partners with Allah, then surely Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and his abode will be the Fire. And there will be no helpers for the wrongdoers. 5:73 They have certainly disbelieved, those who say, "Indeed, Allah is the third of three." And there is no god except the One God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, a painful punishment will surely afflict those who disbelieved among them.

4:110 And whoever does evil or wrongs his soul then seeks forgiveness of Allah he will find Allah Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

4:147 What would Allah do by punishing you if you are grateful and you believe? And Allah is All-Appreciative, All-Knowing.

66:8 O you who believe, turn to Allah in sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your evil deeds and admit you into Gardens underneath which rivers flow - that Day Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will run before them and on their right; they will say, "Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are All-Powerful over everything."

(Verses 66:8 and 28:67 use the word “perhaps” (‘asa), as if they might not be forgiven, but Verse 66:8 says in addition that “that Day Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him” (66:8), which indicates that believers are to be saved. So, one interpretation is that they are to be forgiven as long as they are in the right course. For example, someone is doing righteous deeds, but it is not known yet, until he dies, if he will end up having more evil deeds than good deeds or vice versa (101:6-8), or if he will die as a Muslim (7:126). Both Verses tell about believers being required to “repent”, so they previously committed some mistake)(Another point is that the root of “’asa” (perhaps) is “Ayn-Siin-Ya”, and it means “to perhaps, it may well be that, near to doing, hope/desire”. So, according to other meanings of the word, “’asa” is in the sense of hoping salvation, or going in the direction of salvation)(Allah knows best)

4:116 Indeed, Allah does not forgive to associate partners with Him, but He forgives other than that for whom He wills. And whoever associates partners with Allah, then surely he lost the way, straying far away.

(One interpretation is that God does not forgive association if people did not repent and asked forgiveness before they died. This interpretation is supported by other Verses in the Qur’an. See the link below: “Is shirk forgivable? (shirk = idolatry or polytheism)”)(Allah knows best)

2:159 Indeed, those who conceal the clear proofs We revealed, and the Guidance, after We made it clear for the people in the Book – they are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse. 2:160 Except those who repent and reform (themselves) and openly declare. Then from those, I will accept repentance, and I (am) the Acceptor of Repentance, the Most Merciful. 2:161 Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they (were) disbelievers, upon them is the curse of Allah, and the Angels, and the mankind, all together. 2:162 (They will) abide in it forever. The punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be reprieved.

(Those who are cursed can be forgiven (2:160), if they repent and reform before they die (2:161))(Allah knows best)

65:2 Then when they have reached their term, then retain them with kindness or part with them with kindness. And take as witnesses two just men among you and establish the testimony for Allah. That is instructed to whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out,

25:77 Say, "My Lord will not care for you, if not for your supplication. But verily, you have denied, so soon will be the inevitable (punishment)."

5:89 Allah will not call you to account for the thoughtless utterances in your oaths but He will call you to account for what you contracted of the oath. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of what you feed your families or clothing them or freeing a slave. But whoever does not find (that), then fasting for three days. That is the expiation of your oaths when you have sworn. And guard your oaths. Thus Allah makes clear to you His Verses so that you may be grateful.

4:92 And it is not for a believer that he kills a believer except by mistake. And whoever killed a believer by mistake, then freeing of a believing slave and blood money is to be paid to his family unless that they remit (it as) charity. But if (he) was from a people hostile to you and he was a believer, then freeing of a believing slave. And if (he) was from a people (with whom) is a treaty between you and between them, then the blood money is to be paid to his family, and freeing of a believing slave. And whoever does not find, then fasting for two months consecutively, (seeking) repentance from Allah, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. 4:93 And whoever kills (yaqtul) a believer intentionally, then his recompense is Hell, abiding in it forever; and Allah's wrath will fall on him and He (will) curse him and He has prepared for him a great punishment.

(The Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive, but complement each other. Verse 4:93 might be complemented by Verse 85:10 “Indeed, those who persecuted the believing men and the believing women, then they did not repent, then for them is the punishment of Hell, and for them is the punishment of the Burning Fire”)(The root of “yaqtul” (kills) is “Qaf-Ta-Lam”, and it means “to kill, put to death, be accused, slay / murder / kill / slaughter, attempt to kill, render person like to one killed, to wage war / combat / battle, contend / fight, etc.”)(Allah knows best)

85:10 Indeed, those who persecuted (fatanu) the believing men and the believing women, then they did not repent, then for them is the punishment of Hell, and for them is the punishment of the Burning Fire.

(According to some of the meanings of “Fa-Ta-Nun”, “persecuted” may also imply “slaughter” and “war” against the believers, and it is forgiven if they repent (85:10))(The root of “fatanu” (persecuted) is “Fa-Ta-Nun”, and it means “to try or prove, persecute, burn, assay, put into affliction, distress and hardship, slaughter, cause to err, mislead, punish; fitnatun – persecution, trial, probation, burning, war, hardship, punishment, burning with fire, etc.”)(Allah knows best)

39:53 Say, "O My slaves, those who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the Mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

9:11 But if they repent, and establish prayer and give zakah, then (they are) your brothers in religion. And We explain the Verses in detail for a people (who) know.

28:16 He said, "My Lord, indeed, I have wronged my soul, so forgive me." Then He forgave him. Indeed He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

6:48 And We (do) not send the Messengers except (as) bearer of glad tidings and (as) warners. So whoever believed and reformed, then no fear upon them [and] nor will they grieve.

4:64 And We did not send any Messenger except to be obeyed by permission of Allah . And if, when they wronged themselves, they had come to you and asked forgiveness of Allah and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, surely they would have found Allah Accepting of repentance and Merciful.

39:33 And the one who brought the truth and believed in it, those, they (are) the righteous. 39:34 For them (is) what they wish with their Lord. That (is the) reward (of) the good-doers 39:35 That Allah will remove from them (the) worst (of) what they did and reward them their due for (the) best (of) what they used to do.

4:26 Allah wishes to make clear to you and to guide you to ways of those before you and to accept repentance from you. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

21:87 And Dhun-Nun, when he went (away) in anger and thought that We would never decree upon him. Then he called in the darkness that, "There is no god except You, Glory be to You, indeed, I am of the wrongdoers." 21:88 So We responded to him, and We saved him from the distress. And thus We save the believers.

42:25 And He is the One Who accepts repentance of His slaves and pardons evil (l-sayiati), and He knows what you do.

(The root of “sayiati” (evil) is “Siin-Waw-Alif”, and it means “bad action, sin, evil doer, to treat badly, etc.”)(Allah knows best)

7:161 And when it was said to them, "Live in this city and eat from it wherever you wish and say, "Repentance," and enter the gate prostrating, We will forgive for you your sins. We will increase (the reward of) the good-doers."

4:15 And those who commit immorality from your women, then bring against them four witnesses from among you. And if they testify, then confine them in their houses until death comes to them or Allah makes for them a way. 4:16 And the two among you who commit it, then punish both of them. But if they repent and correct themselves, then turn away from both of them. Indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.

(In Verse 4:15, they are not sentenced to death, so, “until death comes to them” indicates that they are confined forever, unless they repent and correct themselves in order to get a way out (4:16). Confining them in their houses would stop the immorality)(Allah knows best)

4:17 The repentance accepted by (‘ala) Allah is only for those who do evil in ignorance, then they repent soon after. Then it is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. 4:18 And the repentance is not accepted from those who do evil deeds until when death is present to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I repent now;" nor for those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.

(Verse 4:17 uses the word “’ala” (upon) which could imply that it is incumbent to accept the repentance in this case (e.g. like in Verse 75:17 “Indeed, upon Us (‘alayna) is its collection and its recitation”), but in a case, other than “doing evil in ignorance” and “repenting soon after”, then it would not be incumbent to accept the repentance; (so it may be forgiven, or may be not, according to someone’s scales (23:102-103). And people are to be punished anyhow, if they did not repent until when death is present (4:18), or they died while they were disbelievers)(See the links below: “Are intentional sins forgiven?” and “Is God’s action of punishment or mercy and guidance or misguidance arbitrary?”)(Allah knows best)

23:102 Then (the one) whose scales are heavy, then those are the successful. 23:103 But (the one) whose scales are light, then those have lost their souls, they (will) abide forever in Hell.

25:68 And those who do not invoke with Allah another god, and do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right, and do not commit adultery/fornication. And whoever does that will meet a penalty. 25:69 The punishment will be doubled for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide forever therein humiliated 25:70 Except he who repents and believes and does righteous deeds, then for those Allah will replace their evil deeds with good ones. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

24:2 The adulteress/fornicatress and the adulterer/fornicator, flog each of them with hundred lashes. And (let) not withhold you pity for them concerning the religion of Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment. … 24:4 And those who accuse chaste women, then they do not bring four witnesses, then flog them with eighty lashes and (wa) never accept their testimony. And (wa) those, they are the defiantly disobedient, 24:5 Except those who repent after that and reform. Then indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(The adulterers or fornicators are not sentenced to death, but to flogging (24:2). It is alleged that the flogging might kill a person; but Verse 24:5 says, “except those who repent after that and reform”; “after that” refers to “after their testimony or accusation or disobedience”, because the last sentence in Verse 24:4 uses “wa” which is non-sequential, and Verse 24:5 starts with “except”, so it refers to the last sentence in Verse 24:4. So, it does not refer to “after being flogged”, so there is a way out from the punishment)(Nevertheless, these Verses do not explicitly say that they have to be killed; and these Verses do not say that the flogging cannot be done in a way that they are not killed)(In regard to the ones who committed the immorality, Verse 4:18 says, “And the repentance is not accepted from those who do evil deeds until when death is present to one of them”; so they can repent as long as they are alive)(Note: Verse 24:4 says, “and never accept their testimony”; this sentence uses the word “wa” (and) which is non-sequential, in regard to the sentence right before about lashes, so it is interpreted that their testimony is not to be accepted anyhow, unless they bring four witnesses)(Allah knows best)

39:54 And turn to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes to you; then you will be not helped.

19:59 Then succeeded after them successors who neglected the prayer and they followed the lusts, so soon they will meet evil 19:60 Except (one) who repented and believed and did good (deeds). Then those will enter Paradise, and they will not be wronged (in) anything.

14:36 My Lord, indeed, they have led astray many among mankind. So whoever follows me, then indeed, he is of me, and whoever disobeys me, then indeed, You are Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

12:97 They said, "O our father, ask for us forgiveness (of) our sins. Indeed, we have been sinners." 12:98 He said, "Soon I will ask forgiveness for you (from) my Lord. Indeed, He, He (is) the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful."

47:4 So when you meet those who disbelieve, then strike the necks until, when you have subdued them, then bind the bond firmly, then afterwards either a favor or ransom, until the war lays down its burdens. That. And if Allah had willed, surely, He could have taken retribution from them, but to test some of you with others. And those who are killed in the way of Allah, then He will never cause their deeds to be lost. 47:5 He will guide them and improve their condition, 47:6 And admit them (to) Paradise (which) He has made [it] known to them.

33:35 Indeed, the Muslim men and the Muslim women, and the believing men and the believing women, and the obedient men and the obedient women, and the truthful men and the truthful women, and the patient men and the patient women, and the humble men and the humble women, and the men who give charity and the women who give charity, and the men who fast and the women who fast, and the men who guard their chastity and the women who guard (it), and the men who remember Allah much and the women who remember - Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward.
