Are
people protected in Mecca?
14:35
And when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city secure
(aminan) and keep me and my sons away from worshiping
idols.
(The
root of “aminan” (secure) is “Alif-Meem-Nun”, and it means
“become/feel safe/secure, state of security/safety, trust, become
quiet/tranquil in heart/mind, become free of expectation of evil or
free of an object of dislike/hatred, become
trustful/faithful/confident, to believe/acknowledge it, manifestation
of humility/submission, promise/assurance of security/safety”. So,
one interpretation, according to some of the meanings of the word
(faithful, believe, etc.), and the context, is that the city is
secure from disbelief, because the context of the Verse is about
keeping away “from worshiping idols” (14:35); he who worship an
idol is a disbeliever (5:17))(Allah knows best)
3:97
In it are clear signs, the standing place of
Abraham. And whoever enters it - is safe (aminan).
And to Allah upon the people is a pilgrimage to the House – for
whoever is able to it a way. And whoever disbelieves -
then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds.
(Verse
3:97 might support that interpretation because it mentions “whoever
enters it – is safe” (aminan), in opposition to “and whoever
disbelieves” (3:97))(Allah knows best)
22:26
And when We assigned to Abraham the
site of the House, "That do not associate anything
with Me and purify My House for those who circumambulate and
those who stand and those who bow, (and) those who prostrate.
2:190
And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, and do not
transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like the transgressors. 2:191 And
kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from wherever
they drove you out, and oppression is worse than killing. And
do not fight them near Al-Masjid Al-Haraam (l-harami)
until they fight you there. Then if they fight you,
then kill them. Such is the reward of the disbelievers. 2:192
Then if they cease, then indeed, Allah is
Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(According
to Verse 2:191, you do not fight near Al-Masjid Al-Haraam unless they
(the disbelievers) fight you there (self-defense). Fighting back
could make the place safe from disbelievers / disbelief)(Verse 14:35
does not say when was the city going to be safe, but Abraham asked
for it to be safe, regardless of when the prayer was going to be
responded or fulfilled, so there was disbelief there, before the
advent of Muhammad)(Allah knows best)
2:217
They ask you about fighting in the sacred (l-harami)
month. Say, "Fighting therein is a great (sin);
but hindering from the way of Allah, and disbelief in Him and
(preventing access to) Al-Masjid Al-Haraam (l-harami),
and driving out its people from it is greater (sin) near
Allah. And oppression is greater than killing." And
they will not cease to fight with you until they turn you away from
your religion, if they are able. And whoever among you turns away
from his religion, then dies while he is a disbeliever - for those,
their deeds became worthless in the world and the Hereafter. And
those are the companions of the Fire, they (will) abide in it
forever.
(“Sacred
month” and “Al-Masjid Al-Haraam” contain the same word
“l-harami”, which means “forbidding and forbidden to violate”.
So, it is interpreted that fighting is forbidden in Al-Masjid
Al-Haraam unless they fight / oppress you there)(Allah knows best)
16:112
And Allah sets forth a similitude of a town that was secure
(aminatan) and content (mut’ma-innatan),
its provision coming to it in abundance from every
place, but it denied the Favors of Allah, so Allah made it
taste the garb of hunger and fear for what they used to do.
(In
Verse 16:112, “secure and content” opposes “hunger and fear”.
“Content” could also imply “secure from danger”, but
“content” is also about “satisfaction, be free from disquieted,
in tranquility, etc.”. The context of the Verse is provision; so
the mention of “secure, content, hunger and fear” could be
interpreted in regard to provision)(The root of “mut’ma-innatan”
(content) is “Tay-Miim-Alif-Nun” (or also “Tay-Miim-Nun”),
and it means “to rest from, rely upon, bend down, still, a thing
quiet, tranquilize; itma’anna – to be quiet, rest securely in,
satisfied by, be free from disquieted, in tranquility, secure from
danger; mutma’innun – one who rests securely, enjoys peace and
quiet, contend and satisfaction, rests at ease, is peaceful;
itmi’naan – he was in a state of quietness and
tranquility”)(Allah knows best)
28:57
And they say, "If we follow the guidance with you, we would be
swept from our land." Have We not established
for them a secure (aminan) sanctuary
(haraman) to which are brought fruits of
all things (as) provision from Us? But most of them do not
know.
21:34
And We did not make for any man before
you immortality; so if you die, then (would) they live forever?
21:35 Every soul will taste death. And We test you with bad and
good as a trial; and to Us you will be returned.
(Verse
14:35 is not about “people cannot die in a secure city”, because
man is not immortal (21:35), and he does not know in what land he
will die (31:34), so anyone can die anywhere, even in Mecca. Someone
is secure if God wills (48:27))(Allah knows best)
31:34
Indeed, Allah, with Him is the knowledge of the Hour, and He sends
down the rain, and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul knows what
it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what
land it will die. Indeed, Allah is All-Knower, All-Aware.
48:27
Certainly, Allah has fulfilled His Messenger's vision in truth.
You will surely enter Al-Masjid
Al-Haraam, if Allah wills, secure (aminina), having your
heads shaved and shortened, not fearing. But He knew what you
did not know, and He made, besides that, a near victory.
(The
context of Verse 48:27 is about physical harm, while “secure” in
Verse 14:35 is about belief / faith, because Verse 48:27 says “you
will surely enter Al-Masjid Al-Haraam, if Allah wills, secure … a
near victory”)(Allah knows best)
41:40
Indeed, those who distort (in) Our Verses are not hidden from Us. So,
is (he) who is cast in the Fire better or (he) who comes secure on
the Day of Resurrection? Do what you will. Indeed, He is the
All-Seer of what you do.
(The
disbelievers would not come secure on the Day of Resurrection,
because of their disbelief)(Allah knows best)
29:67
Do
they not
see that We have made a secure
(aminan)
Sanctuary, while people
are being taken away around them? Then do they
believe in falsehood and disbelieve
in the Favor of Allah?
(“Secure”
(aminan) here is in the context of “belief”)(Allah knows best)
2:126
And when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this a
secure city and provide its people with fruits –
whoever of them believes in Allah and
the Last Day." He said, "And whoever
disbelieves, [then] I will grant him enjoyment for a little; then I
will force him to the punishment of the Fire, and evil is the
destination.
2:125
And when We made the House a place of return for mankind and
security and "Take the standing place of Abraham, as a place
of prayer." And We made a covenant with Abraham
and Ishmael, "Purify
My House for those who circumambulate, and those who seclude
themselves for devotion and prayer and those who bow down and those
who prostrate.”
2:40
O Children of Israel, remember My Favor which I bestowed upon you,
and fulfill My Covenant, I will fulfill your covenant, and
fear Me and Me alone.
95:3
And this secure city,
2:124
And when his Lord tried Abraham with
words and he fulfilled them, He said, "Indeed I (am) the One to
make you a leader for mankind." He said, "And of
my offspring?" He said, "My Covenant does not
reach the wrongdoers."
5:97
Allah has made the Kabah, the Sacred House, an establishment for
mankind and the sacred months and the
offering and the garlands. That is so that you may know that Allah
knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, and that Allah
is All-Knower of everything.
