Was Jonah cast on the desert shore or was he not?
37:142 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 37:143 And if he had not been of those who glorify 37:144 Certainly, he (would have) remained in its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 37:145 But We cast him onto the open shore while he was ill. 37:146 And We caused to grow over him a gourd plant.
(Jonah was of those who glorify (37:143), that was the reason to be cast onto the open shore, instead of remaining in the belly of the fish)(Allah knows best)
68:48 So be patient for the decision of your Lord, and do not be like the companion of the fish, when he called out/called (nada), while he was distressed. 68:49 If a Favor from his Lord had not overtaken him, surely he would have been thrown onto the naked shore and he was disgraced. 68:50 But (fa) his Lord chose him, and made him of the righteous.
(Verses 68:48-50 are chronological, so, according to Verse 68:48, Jonah previously glorified God, then Jonah was to be cast onto the open shore, because he fulfilled the condition to be cast onto the shore (he glorified God (37:143-144)). So Verse 68:49 confirms that he was to be thrown onto the shore, because he glorified, but he would have been disgraced there (onto the shore, not into the belly) if not for a Favor from his Lord (68:49). In other words, after glorifying God, he was to be cast onto the open shore, but in addition, he was not disgraced in the open shore, because a Favor overtook him)(Verse 21:87 confirms that “called out/called” in Verse 68:48 refers to “he glorified God”, because Verse 21:87 uses the same verb “nada” (called), then Verse 21:87 specifies what he said in his call, “Glory be to You”, so the event in Verse 68:49 happens chronologically after he glorified God, so he was to be thrown onto the shore “in any case” because he had previously glorified God, so non-Muslims are wrong by saying that one Verse says that he was to be cast on the shore and another Verse says that he wasn’t to be cast)(In conclusion, there is no contradiction because in both cases (37:142-146 and 68:48-50) Jonah was to be thrown onto the shore, because the event in Verse 68:49 happens chronologically after he had glorified God (68:48))(The next Verse (68:50) starts with the word “fa” (but) which indicates chronological order, so after he was disgraced and on the shore (68:49), his Lord chose him (68:50). The condition to be “chosen” is that “Allah chooses for His Mercy whom He wills” (2:105))(Allah knows best)
21:87 And Dhun-Nun, when he went (away) in anger and thought that We would never decree upon him. Then he called (fanada) in the darkness that, "There is no god except You, Glory be to You, indeed, I am of the wrongdoers."
(Dhun-Nun means “the man of the fish” (Jonah))(Verse 21:87 confirms that Jonah glorified in his call in Verse 68:48, because both Verses, 68:48 and 21:87, use the word “nada” (called), and Verse 21:87 specifies that which he said in his call - he said, “Glory be to You”. The Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive but complement each other, so we know what was specifically said in his call in Verse 68:48, by reading Verse 21:87)(Allah knows best)
14:11 Their Messengers said to them, "We are not but human like you, but Allah bestows His Grace / Favor on whom He wills of His slaves. And it is not for us that we bring you an authority except by the permission of Allah. And upon Allah let the believers put their trust.
2:105 Neither those who disbelieve among the People of the Book, nor those who associate partners like that any good (should) be sent down to you from your Lord. And Allah chooses for His Mercy whom He wills. And Allah (is the) Possessor of Great Bounty.
3:129 And to Allah (belongs) what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
