How can you fast in the poles if sunrise to sunset takes months? Also how do you pray if there is a sunrise and sunset that takes 6 months?
2:185 The month of Ramadhan is that in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever witnesses (shahida) among you the month, then he should fast in it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then the prescribed number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and that you complete the period and to magnify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and that you may be grateful. … 2:187 It is permitted for you in the nights of fasting to approach to your wives. They are your garments and you are their garments. Allah Knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He turned towards you and He forgave you. So now have relations with them and seek what Allah has ordained for you. And eat and drink until the white thread becomes distinct to you from the black thread of dawn (l-fajri). Then complete the fast till the night (al-layli). And do not have relations with them while you are secluded in the masajid. These are the limits (set by) Allah, so do not approach them. Thus Allah makes clear His verses for the people, so that they may become righteous.
(One interpretation of this Verse is that, in order to know the day in which the month of Ramadhan starts, if the month is witnessed by a Muslim community, then all Muslim communities around the world should fast. Because the sentence “whoever witnesses among (of) you” could not imply “one witness from each place”, but the word “witnesses / shahida” in this Verse is in singular and third person in Arabic)(The root of the word “l-fajri”, interpreted / translated as “dawn” (2:187), is “Fa-Jiim-Ra”, and it also means “cut / divide lengthwise, incline / decline / deviate”, so the Verse does not even say that there must be a sunrise or sunset to fast, but you eat and drink until the white thread becomes distinct from the black thread (2:187). In that sense, in regard to the continuous night at the Poles, in fact there are hours with light at the horizon, and hours with darkness there, despite there was no sunrise. In regard to the continuous day, the sun rises until it reaches its higher point in the sky, then goes down again, reaching its lower point (darker hours), so there are degrees of light and darkness at the Poles, despite there was no sunset. See the video below, titled “the North Pole entire summer of never ending sun summer solstice high speed camera”)(Verse 2:187 says, “complete the fast till the night”; the root of the word “al-layli”, translated / interpreted as “night”, is “Lam-Ya-Lam”, and it also means “evening”, so the word could not imply complete darkness, but actually all Muslims around the world break the fast and you still see light in the sky. So the Verse does not say that there must be a sunrise or sunset, or a “dark night”, to fast or break fast)(Allah knows best)

2:183 O you who believe, fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, so that you may become righteous. 2:184 Days numbered. So whoever among you is sick or on a journey, then a prescribed number of days, other. And upon those who can afford it, a ransom of feeding a poor. And whoever volunteers good then it is better for him. And if you fast, it is better for you, if you know.
(Fasting is a prescribed number of days, not months)(Another point is that, for example, the northernmost permanently inhabited place in the world is “Alert” in Canada (total population: only 62 persons). In fact “Alert” has no permanent residents, but it has been permanently inhabited since April 1950 (source: article “Alert, Nunavut” in wikipedia). In that sense, it is said that humans are essentially tropical, clothing and shelters are essential to survive in extreme cold conditions. The Poles are not a good place to settle, but it is not forbidden to fast or pray there)(It is also said that Muslims follow the fasting hours in the nearest city where fasting is observed at dawn and sunset. Alternatively, Muslims may follow Mecca time)(If you are not a permanent resident, the Verse also says that if you are on a journey (e.g. journey to the Poles) then you can fast other days)(Allah knows best)
2:125 And when We made the House a place of return for mankind and security and "Take the standing place of Abraham, as a place of prayer." And We made a covenant with Abraham and Ishmael, "Purify My House for those who circumambulate, and those who seclude themselves for devotion and prayer and those who bow down and those who prostrate.”
(The Poles seem not to be good places to live, but it is not forbidden to pray there)(In regard to the standing place of Abraham, it was explicitly designated for prayer)(Allah knows best)
7:29 Say, "My Lord has ordered justice, and set your faces at every masjid and invoke Him (being) sincere to Him in religion. As He originated you, (so) will you return."
(The Arabic word “masjid” (mosque) means place of prostration. A masjid can be any designated place that is fit for prostration, whether or not it is a building)(Allah knows best)
4:103 Then when you have finished the prayer, then remember Allah standing, and sitting, and on your sides. But when you are secure, then establish prayer. Indeed, prayer is prescribed for the believers at fixed times.
11:114 And establish the prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, the good deeds remove the evil deeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.
(In regard to praying at the Poles, the sun reaches its highest point there (noon), and lowest points there (2 ends of the day (11:114)). So this Verse doesn’t say that there must be a sunrise or sunset for prayer. The sun indicates the two ends and the noon at the Poles, so this is in accordance with Verse 11:114 of the Qur’an, in order to pray. See the video in the link above)(Allah knows best)
73:1 O you who wraps himself, 73:2 stand in the night, except for a little, 73:3 half of it, or lessen from it a little, 73:4 Or add to it, and recite the Qur’an with measured rhythmic recitation. 73:5 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy Word. 73:6 Indeed, the rising at the night is very hard and most potent and more suitable for Word.
(In regard to six months night, according to this Verse, any time during the night can be fixed for prayer)(Allah knows best)
76:23 Indeed, We revealed to you the Qur’an progressively. … 76:25 And remember (the) name (of) your Lord, morning and evening. 76:26 And of the night prostrate to Him, and glorify Him a long night.
(It is interpreted that, in this case, these Verses are only addressed to the Prophet, because it is commanded in the singular; and according to the context, Verse 76:23 is addressed to the one whom God revealed the Qur’an. Even in this case, the words “of the night” do not imply “all night”, and there is no indicator of periods for praying at night, but any time can be fixed for prayer)(Allah knows best)
73:20 Indeed, your Lord knows that you stand (a little) less than two-thirds of the night, and half of it, and a third of it, and (so do) a group of those who are with you. And Allah determines the night and the day. He knows that you do not count it, so He has turned to you, so recite what is easy of the Qur’an. He knows that among you will be sick and others traveling in the land seeking the Bounty of Allah, and others fighting in the way of Allah. So recite what is easy from it, and establish the prayer and give zakah and loan to Allah a goodly loan. And whatever good you send forth for yourselves, you will find it with Allah. It (will be) better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(Verse 73:20 confirms that Muslims did not even count the time they pray at night, “He knows that you do not count it”)(Note: “You” in the sentence “you stand” is masculine singular, so it refers to the Prophet, while “you” in the sentence “you do not count it” is masculine plural, so it refers to Muslims)(Allah knows best)
20:130 So be patient over what they say and glorify with/(the) praise (of) your Lord before (the) rising (of) the sun and before its setting; and glorify (Him) from/(during) (the) hours (of) the night, and (at the) ends (of) the day so that you may be satisfied.
(The Verse does not tell you about praying at these times, but it is about glorifying with praise your Lord, when these times occur)(Allah knows best)
