Can God be seen?

6:103 Vision grasp Him not, but He grasp the vision; and He is the All-Subtle, the All-Aware.

42:51 And it is not for any human that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a veil or (by) sending a messenger then he reveals, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High, the Most Wise.

(Some non-Muslims say that there is a contradiction in these two Verses, but Verse 42:51 does not say that God can be seen, but explicitly says “speak”, not “be seen”)(Allah knows best)

53:1 By the star when it goes down, 53:2 Your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred, 53:3 And he does not speak from the desire. 53:4 It is not except a revelation revealed, 53:5 The (One) mighty in power has taught him, 53:6 Possessor of soundness. And he rose, 53:7 While he was in the highest horizon. 53:8 Then he approached and came down, 53:9 And was at a distance of two bow-(lengths) or nearer. 53:10 So he revealed to His slave what (ma) he revealed. 53:11 The heart did not lie what it saw. 53:12 Then will you dispute with him about what he saw? 53:13 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 53:14 Near the Lote Tree of the utmost boundary, 53:15 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 53:16 When that which covers covered the Lote Tree, 53:17 The sight did not swerve, nor did it transgress. 53:18 Certainly he saw the Greatest Signs of his Lord.

(In these Verses, it is said that an Angel was seen, not God. This is supported by Verses 53:13, 41:30, 97:4 and 19:64, because the Angels are the ones who “descend”. And it is supported by Verse 53:18, which explicitly says “he saw the Greatest Signs of his Lord”, not “seeing his Lord”. And Verse 53:10 says, “he revealed to His slave what (ma) he revealed”, while God is not referred as “what” (ma))(Allah knows best)

41:30 Indeed, those who say, "Our Lord is Allah," then stand firm – the Angels will descend on them, "Do not fear, and do not grieve but receive the glad tidings of Paradise which you were promised.

97:4 Therein descend the Angels and the Spirit, by the permission of their Lord, for every affair,

19:64 And we do not descend except by the Command of your Lord. To Him (belongs) what is before us and what is behind us, and what is between that. And your Lord is not forgetful

7:143 And when Moses came to Our appointed place and his Lord spoke to him, he said, "O my Lord, show me (that) I may look at You." He said, "you (can) never see Me, but look at the mountain; if it remains in its place, then you will see Me." But when his Lord revealed (His) Glory to the mountain, He made it crumbled to dust and Moses fell down unconscious. And when he recovered, he said, "Glory be to You, I turn to you, and I am the first of the believers."

(According to this Verse, Moses could never see God. If the mountain was to remain in its place, Moses would see Him, but it was not the case, because “you (can) never see Me” (7:143))(Allah knows best)

57:2 To Him (is the) dominion of the heavens and the earth, He gives life and causes death, and He is All-Powerful over all things. 57:3 He is the First and the Last, the Apparent (wal-zahiru) and the Unapparent (wal-batinu), and He is, of all things, Knowing. 57:4 He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods, then He rose over the Throne. He knows what penetrates into the earth and what comes forth from it, and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein; and He is with you wherever you are. And Allah is All-Seer of what you do.

(“Za-ha-ra” means “to appear, become distinct/clear/open/manifest, be obvious, etc.”, but “Ba-Tay-Nun” means “to become hidden or unapparent, concealed or covert, etc.”. Verse 57:3 does not say that you can “see” God. On the other hand, the Verses also say, “He gives life and causes death” (57:2), “He is the One Who created the heavens and the earth” (57:4)..., so you can see what He does in His creation. And in the creation of the heavens and the earth are Signs (3:190, 6:99))(Allah knows best)
