Is polygamy okay? Why are men permitted to have 4 wives but women are only allowed one husband?
4:3 And if you fear that not you will be able to do justice with the orphans, then (fa) marry what seems suitable to you from the women - two, or three, or four. But (fa) if you fear that you will not be just, then one or what your right hands possess. That is more appropriate that you may not oppress.
(A man has to marry women who he thinks he will be able to do justice (among them), be it orphan or other women - one, two, three or four. Then, polygamy would be allowed, but, if he fears that he will not be just, then he has to marry one (4:3))(“What your right hands possess” is not an exception to be just, nor an exception to marry one, two, three or four, but the same rules are applied to all of them (“women”, orphans and what your right hand possess), because, according to the context, it is a matter of sequence or order: first the orphans, then “(other) women”, then what your right hand possess, because the Verse mentions “fa” between them, which indicates order, in Arabic)(The Verse also says, “that is more appropriate that you may not oppress”, so the Verse does not make some women an exception in regard to being just to them, but, instead, you cannot oppress people)(Allah knows best)
4:127 And they seek your ruling concerning women. Say, "Allah gives you the ruling about them and what has been recited to you in the Book concerning the orphans women to whom you do not give what is ordained for them and you desire to marry them, and the weak among children and to stand for orphans with justice. And whatever good you do, then indeed, Allah is All-Knowing of it. 4:128 And if a woman fears ill-conduct or desertion from her husband, then there is no sin upon both of them that they make terms of peace between themselves - a reconciliation, and reconciliation is best. And souls are swayed by greed. But if you do good and fear, then indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what you do. 4:129 And you will never be able to deal justly between the women even if you desired, but do not incline (with) all the inclination and leave her like the suspended one. And if you reconcile and fear - then indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. 4:130 And if they separate, Allah will enrich each (of them) from His abundance. And Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Wise.
(According to the context, if the husband and one of his wives are not on good terms, for any reason (e.g. she is older than other wives, or uglier, or permanently sick, or they are not longer mutually attracted, etc.); in that situation or context, he would never be able to deal justly between the women, but reconciliation is best, so divorce is “less” encouraged. But if they want to stay together, he cannot incline to only one wife and leave the other like the suspended one, (like neither divorced nor married), then he must reconcile, or divorce. Reconciliation is more encouraged, because they are already married, while in Verse 4:3 they are not married, so they just do not marry if he fears that he will be unjust)(Verse 4:128 confirms that polygamy is allowed, because it says that “reconciliation is best”, and Verse 4:129 says, “if you reconcile and fear – then indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful”, so the Verses do not encourage to desist from polygamy)(“If you reconcile and fear - then indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful”. So, in spite of he won’t be able to be just (4:129), but he does not incline to one wife and leave the other (4:129), and if they reconcile, then, God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (4:129))(Allah knows best)
2:216 Fighting is prescribed upon you while it is disliked by you. But perhaps you dislike a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you do not know.
(Many people see polygamy as something bad, but non-Muslims have relations with many men, and women, without being married, that’s a major sin. While in polygamy they are married and they have rights, and it is optional. So Atheists and Christians are hypocrites and their belief do not solve that there are more women than men in some places; so women is protected in regard to finding a husband, while men is not protected in that regard)(Non-Muslims are also hypocrites because the Christian/Jewish Bible supports polygamy (2 Chronicles 11:21, Genesis 4:19, 1 Kings 11:3); for example, 2 Chronicles 11:21 says, “Rehoboam loved Maakah daughter of Absalom more than any of his other wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines”; in regard to Solomon, 1 Kings 11:3 says, “he had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines”)(Allah knows best)
33:28 O Prophet, say to your wives, "If you desire the life of the world and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and release you with a good release.
(Muslim women can divorce. So, women are only allowed one husband at a time; but it is not forbidden to have more than one husband in their lifetime, if they divorce. On the other hand, in Christianity, women cannot divorce (Matthew 5:32), so she might only have one husband in her lifetime; and she could also be oppressed or abused by her husband, because she cannot divorce anyhow. And, in Judaism and Christianity, according to Genesis 38:8, women is forced or have an obligation to have relations with her husband’s brother, while in Islam women have no obligation or cannot be forced to have relations. In Deuteronomy 22:28-29, if a man rapes a girl, he must marry her forever and can never divorce; so, this would rather punish the victim, and the rapist would go unpunished)(Allah knows best)
4:34 Men are protectors of the women because Allah (has) bestowed some of them over others and because they spend from their wealth. So the righteous women are obedient, guarding in the unseen that which Allah (orders) them to guard. And those (from) whom you fear their ill-conduct, then advise them, and forsake them in bed, and set forth them. Then if they obey you, then do not seek a way against them. Indeed, Allah is Most High, Most Great.
(In regard to why men are permitted to have 4 wives but women are only allowed one husband, it is interpreted that it is for protecting women, so all women can find marriage, for example, in a location, or situation (e.g. war), in which there are more women than men; on the other hand, men are not protected in that matter, so that not all men could find marriage, if he has no wealth (24:33), or if there are more men than women in a certain location, and all women of his age are already married, then it could be less likely for men to find marriage)(Likewise, women wearing veil, or women marrying with the permission of their family (4:25), etc., are also to protect women)(Allah knows best)
4:25 And whoever among you is not able to marry free chaste believing women, then from those whom your right hands possess of believing girls. And Allah knows all about your faith. You are of one another. So marry them with the permission of their family and give them their bridal due in a fair manner. Chaste, not committing immorality and not taking secret lovers. Then if after marriage they commit adultery, then their punishment is half of that which is for free chaste women. That is for whoever among you who fears committing sin, and to be patient is better for you. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(Many non-Muslims have lovers, so they are in fact having sexual relations with many men, or many women, some of them many more than “four” lovers)(Muslim women have to marry, and they have rights, while non-Muslims’ lovers have no rights (e.g. inheritance (4:12), bridal due (4:25), not expelling them (65:1), etc.), so non-Muslims are hypocrites, and they wrongly interpret things about Muslim women as oppression, instead of protection, while they (non-Muslims) are the ones who oppress women)(Allah knows best)
56:35 Indeed, We have produced them into a creation, 56:36 And We have made them virgins, 56:37 Devoted, well-matched. 56:38 For the companions of the right, 56:39 A company of the former people, 56:40 And a company of the later people.
(In regard to polygamy in the Hereafter, it is said that each man would have 72 virgins in Paradise, but such number is not specified in the Qur’an. On the other hand, in Christianity, according to Matthew 19:29, it implicitly suggests that each man will have 100 wives. Matthew 19:29 says, “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life”)(It is said that “Talmud Yalkut Shimoni, Bereshit 20” speaks about having sixty servants in the Garden on Eden, but according to a translation in the book title “Unum” by “William Sutherland”, it says that “when a righteous arrives, they (the servants) remove clothes in which (they) had been buried, and clothe (them) in white robes”, so it does not speak about sexual relations, wives or concubines)(Allah knows best)
