Is there Mercy in Islam? Is God Merciful?

Is there Mercy in Islam? Is God Merciful?

1:1 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

48:29 Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah ; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking bounty from Allah and pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their similitude in the Torah. And their similitude in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they become thick and stand upon their stem, delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.

(God is Merciful, but forgiveness is not unconditional, you are required to be a believer and you must do righteous deeds)(Allah knows best)

3:135 And those when they did immorality or wronged themselves - they remember Allah then ask forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive the sins except Allah? And they do not persist in what they did while they know.

5:38 And for the male thief and the female thief - cut off their hands as a recompense for what they earned as an exemplary (punishment)(nakalan) from Allah. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. 5:39 But whoever repented after his wrongdoing and reforms, then indeed, Allah will turn to him in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(Verse 5:39 says, “but whoever repented after his wrongdoing and reforms, then indeed, Allah will turn to him in forgiveness”. So, someone can obtain forgiveness “after his wrongdoing”; the Verse does not say “after his punishment” as an expiation, but they could avoid the punishment)(The root of “nakalan” is “Nun-Kaf-Lam”, and it means “desist; prevent; any punishment serving to give warning to others than the sufferer or that restrains the offender from repeating the offense”. So, it is for avoiding or a deterrence, lest they be punished)(Allah knows best)

24:22 And let not those of virtue among you and the wealthy swear not to give to the near of kin, and the needy and the emigrants in the way of Allah. And let them pardon and let them overlook. Do you not like that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

20:121 Then they both ate of it, so their shame became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred. 20:122 Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him and guided.

7:153 And those who do evil deeds then repented after that and believed, indeed, after that your Lord is surely Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

11:90 And ask forgiveness of your Lord, then turn in repentance to Him. Indeed, my Lord is Most Merciful, Most Loving."

110:3 Then glorify your Lord with the praises and ask His forgiveness. Indeed, He is Oft-Returning.

71:10 Then I said, "Ask forgiveness from your Lord. Indeed, He is Oft-Forgiving.

39:53 Say, "O My slaves, those who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the Mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

4:110 And whoever does evil or wrongs his soul then seeks forgiveness of Allah he will find Allah Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

4:147 What would Allah do by punishing you if you are grateful and you believe? And Allah is All-Appreciative, All-Knowing.

5:101 O you who believe, do not ask about things, if they are made clear to you, it may distress you. And if you ask about it when the Qur’an is being revealed, it would be made clear to you. Allah has pardoned it, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, All-Forbearing.

5:73 They have certainly disbelieved, those who say, "Indeed, Allah is the third of three." And there is no god except the One God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, a painful punishment will surely afflict those who disbelieved among them. 5:74 So will they not turn to Allah and seek His forgiveness? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

4:153 The People of the Book ask you to bring down to them a book from the heaven. Indeed, they had asked Moses even greater than that for they said, "Show us Allah manifestly," so the thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf after clear proofs came to them, then We forgave them for that. And We gave Moses a clear authority.

12:87 O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of the Mercy of Allah . Indeed, no one despairs of the Mercy of Allah except the disbelieving people."

4:15 And those who commit immorality from your women, then bring against them four witnesses from among you. And if they testify, then confine them in their houses until death comes to them or Allah makes for them a way. 4:16 And the two among you who commit it, then punish both of them. But if they repent and correct themselves, then turn away from both of them. Indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.

2:191 And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from wherever they drove you out, and oppression is worse than killing. And do not fight them near Al-Masjid Al-Haraam until they fight you there. Then if they fight you, then kill them. Such is the reward of the disbelievers. 2:192 Then if they cease, then indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. 2:193 And fight against them until there is no oppression, and the religion becomes for Allah Then if they cease, then let there be no hostility except against the oppressors.

(Self-defense)(Forgiveness is conditional. In a context of war, the aggressors must cease fighting)(Allah knows best)

28:55 And when they hear vain talk, they turn away from it and say, "For us are our deeds and for you are your deeds. Peace be on you; we do not seek the ignorant."

16:126 And if you retaliate, then retaliate with the like of that with which you were afflicted. But if you are patient, it is surely better for those who are patient.

42:40 The recompense for an evil is an evil like it. But whoever pardons and makes reconciliation, then his reward is on Allah. Indeed, He does not like the wrongdoers.

4:90 Except those who join a group between whom and you there is a treaty or those who come to you with hearts restraining them from fighting you or fighting their people. And if Allah had willed, surely He would have given them power over you, and they would surely have fought you. So if they withdraw from you and do not fight against you and offer you peace, then Allah has not made for you a way against them.

5:13 So for their breaking of their covenant We cursed them and We made their hearts hard. They distort words from their places, and forgot a part of what they were reminded of. And you will not cease to discover treachery from them except a few of them. But forgive them and overlook. Indeed, Allah loves the good-doers.

(Some Verses are in a context in which no one tries to kill you, then you are not to fight them back)(Allah knows best)

3:134 Those who spend in ease and hardship and those who restrain the anger and those who pardon people - and Allah loves the good-doers.

64:14 O you who believe, indeed, from your spouses and your children are enemies to you, so beware of them. But if you pardon and overlook and forgive, then indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

33:48 And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and disregard their harm, and put your trust in Allah. And sufficient is Allah as a Trustee.

30:21 And among His Signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed love and mercy between you. Indeed, in that are surely Signs for a people who reflect.

1:3 The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful,

47:34 Indeed, those who disbelieve and turn away from the way of Allah, then died while they were disbelievers, Allah will never forgive them.

(God does not forgive those who died while they were disbelievers)(Allah knows best)

4:56 Indeed, those who disbelieved in Our Signs, soon We will burn them in a Fire. Every time their skins are roasted, We will change their skins for other (than) that, so that they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

(Forgiveness is conditional)(Allah knows best)

4:18 And the repentance is not accepted from those who do evil deeds until when death is present to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I repent now;" nor for those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.

18:58 And your Lord (is) the Most Forgiving, Owner (of) the Mercy. If He were to seize them for what they have earned, surely, He (would) have hastened for them the punishment. But for them (is) an appointment other than it/(from which) they will never find an escape.
