Does God speak directly with people?
42:51 And it is not for any human that Allah should speak to him except by revelation (wahyan) or from behind a veil or (by) sending a messenger then he reveals, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High, the Most Wise.
(Verse 42:51 mentions that God speaks by revelation, or from behind a veil or by sending a Messenger)(Allah knows best)
53:4 It is not except a revelation revealed, ... 53:8 Then he approached and came down, ... 53:10 So he revealed to His slave what he revealed. 53:11 The heart did not lie what it saw.
(An Angel came to Muhammad to reveal the Qur’an (2:97), so Verse 53:10 agrees with Verse 42:51, because God speaks by sending a messenger)(An Angel/Spirit is called “Messenger” in Verse 19:19)(Allah knows best)
2:259 Or like the one who passed by a township, and it (had) overturned on its roofs. He said, "How (will) Allah bring this to life after its death?" Then he was made to die (by) Allah for one hundred years, then He raised him. He said, "How long (have) you remained?" He said, "I remained for a day or part of a day." He said, "Nay, you (have) remained for one hundred years. Then look at your food and your drink, (they had) not changed with time, and look at your donkey, and We will make you a sign for the people. And look at the bones, how We raise them, then We cover them with flesh." Then when (it) became clear to him, he said, "I know that Allah is All-Powerful over everything."
(Verse 2:259 is also in accordance with Verse 42:51, because it is interpreted that God speaks by revelation, or from behind a veil, in Verse 2:259)(The root word of “wahyan” (revelation) is “Waw-Ha-Ya”, and it means “to indicate, reveal, suggest, inspire, speak secretly, say something in a whisper tone so that only the hearer hears it clearly but not the person standing close to him, etc.”)(Allah knows best)
2:36 Then Satan made (both of) them slip out of it, and he got (both of) them out from that in which they (both) were. And We said, "Go down (all of you), as enemies to one another; and on the earth, for you is a dwelling place and a provision for a period." 2:37 Then Adam received words from his Lord, so turned towards him. Indeed He, He is the Oft-returning, the Most Merciful.
(Some non-Muslims say that there is a contradiction in those Verses, but, for example, Verses 2:36-37 and 7:22-23 do not even specify how God spoke to Adam, so there is no contradiction between those Verses and Verse 42:51 at all)(On the other hand, “speaking directly” does not contradict “speaking from behind a veil” or “by revelation”, because according to the definition of “revelation”, it might also imply “inspire, speak secretly, say something in a whisper tone, etc.”. And you can also hear someone’s voice “from behind a veil”)(Allah knows best)
7:22 So he made both of them fall by deception. Then when they both tasted the tree, their shame became apparent to both of them, and they began to fasten over themselves the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called both of them, "Did I not forbid both of you from this tree and say to both of you that Satan is to both of you an open enemy?" 7:23 Both of them said "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers."
4:164 And surely We (have) mentioned to you Messengers before and Messengers (about) whom We (have) not mentioned to you. And Allah spoke to Moses in a conversation.
(God speaks from behind a veil or by revelation)(According to Verse 7:143, in which Allah spoke to Moses in a conversation, Moses said “O my Lord, show me (that) I may look at You” (7:143), but Moses did not see Him, the response was “you (can) never see Me”, so it is in accordance with Verse 42:51 in which, speaking by revelation, or from behind a veil or by sending a Messenger, does not imply to be seen)(Allah knows best)
33:53 O you who believe, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when permission is given to you for a meal, without awaiting its preparation. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, then disperse without seeking to remain for a conversation. Indeed, that was troubling the Prophet, and he is shy of you. But Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask them for something, then ask them from behind a screen. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not for you that you trouble the Messenger of Allah nor that you should ever marry his wives after him. Indeed, that is an enormity near Allah.
(Verse 33:53 supports that when something is asked, (e.g. getting into a conversation), then it can be from behind a veil. Then the events in Verses 2:259, 4:164, 2:36-37 and 7:22-23 might have been from behind a veil as well)(Allah knows best)
23:27 So We inspired him, "That construct the ship under Our eyes, and Our inspiration, then when Our Command comes and the oven gushes forth, then put into it two mates from every (kind) and your family, except those against whom the Word preceded thereof. And do not address Me concerning those who wronged, indeed, they are the ones to be drowned.
(Verse 23:27 explicitly says that it was by revelation/inspiration)(Allah knows best)
19:17 Then she took a screen from them. Then We sent to her Our Spirit, then he appeared to her in the likeness of a well-proportioned man. 19:18 She said, "Indeed, I seek refuge with the Most Gracious from you, if you are God fearing." 19:19 He said, "I am only a Messenger from your Lord, that I may bestow on you a pure son."
(The Spirit is called “Messenger”. In this case, God speaks by sending a Messenger)(Allah knows best)
