How to treat those who do not believe in the afterlife?
45:14 Say to those who believe to forgive those who do not hope for the days of Allah; that He may recompense a people for what they used to earn.
25:63 And the slaves of the Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humbleness, and when the ignorant ones address them, they say, "Peace."
9:29 Fight those who do not believe in Allah and in the Last Day, and they do not make unlawful what Allah has made unlawful and His Messenger, and they do not acknowledge the religion of the truth, from those who were given the Scripture, until they pay the jizyah willingly, while they are subdued.
(The context of Chapter 9 is self-defense (9:8-10, 9:12-13, 9:40, 9:61, 9:64-66, 9:107), so there is no contradiction. So, Verse 9:29 indicates that the disbelievers are the ones to be fought, in a context of war (e.g., in self-defense, against oppression)(On the other hand, there is no compulsion in Islam, in Verse 9:29; the Verse says that the payment is done willingly. It is said that the payment is in exchange of security. On the other hand, Muslims do not pay willingly in non-Muslim countries but they are forced to pay taxes, so some non-Muslims are hypocrites by using Verse 9:29 against Islam)(Allah knows best)
9:30 And the Jews said, "Uzair is son of Allah." And the Christians said, "Messiah is son of Allah." That is their saying with their mouths, they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before. (May) Allah destroy them. How deluded are they.
(They are not fought because they just said something “with their mouths”, so in this case they do not fight against Muslims. Verse 16:126 says, “retaliate with the like of that with which you were afflicted”)(Allah knows best)
4:74 So let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of the world for the Hereafter. And whoever fights in the way of Allah, then he is killed or achieves victory then soon We will grant him a great reward. 4:75 And what is with you that you do not fight in the way of Allah, and (for) those who are weak among men and women and children who say, "Our Lord, take us out of this town whose people are oppressors and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper.
(The context of Verse 4:74 is oppression; those who sell the life of the world for the hereafter (4:74), are oppressing people (4:75))(Allah knows best)
9:6 And if anyone of the polytheists seek your protection then grant him protection until he hears the Words of Allah. Then escort him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know.
(Verse 9:6 confirms that fighting is in self-defense, because if the enemies’ intention is other than fighting (e.g. seeking your protection), then they are not fought)(Allah knows best)
9:8 How while, if they gain dominance over you, they do not regard (the ties of) kinship with you or covenant of protection? They satisfy you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse, and most of them are defiantly disobedient. 9:9 They exchange the Verses of Allah for a little price, and they hinder from His way. Indeed, evil is what they used to do. 9:10 With regard to a believer, they do not respect (the ties) of kinship or covenant of protection. And it is they who are the transgressors.
(If they gain dominance over Muslims, they break the kinship or covenant of protection, “and it is they who are the transgressors” (9:10))(Allah knows best)
9:12 And if they break their oaths after their treaty and defame your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief, indeed, their oaths are nothing to them - so that they may cease. 9:13 Will you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to drive out the Messenger and they began (to attack) you the first time? Do you fear them? But Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are believers.
(According to Verse 9:12, the purpose of fighting is that “they may cease”, so the context of Chapter 9 is self-defense)(According to Verse 9:13, the enemies attacked first, so Muslims defended themselves, “so that they may cease” (9:12))(Allah knows best)
9:40 If you do not help him, certainly, Allah helped him when those who disbelieved drove him out, the second of two, when they both were in the cave, he said to his companion, "Do not grieve, indeed, Allah is with us." Then Allah sent down His tranquility upon him, and supported him with forces which you did not see, and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the Word of Allah is the highest. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
9:61 And among them are those who hurt the Prophet and say, "He is an ear." Say, "An ear of goodness for you that believes in Allah and believes the believers and is a mercy to those who believe among you." And those who hurt the Messenger of Allah - for them is a painful punishment.
9:64 The hypocrites fear lest a Surah be revealed about them, informing them of what is in their hearts. Say, "Mock, indeed, Allah (will) bring forth what you fear." 9:65 And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His Verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?" 9:66 Make no excuse; verily, you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon a party of you, We will punish a party, because they were criminals.
9:95 They will swear by Allah to you when you returned to them, that you may turn away from them. So turn away from them, indeed, they are impure and their abode is Hell, a recompense for what they used to earn.
9:107 And those who take a mosque (for) harm and disbelief and division among the believers, and as a station for whoever warred against Allah and His Messenger before. And they will surely swear, "we wish only the good." And Allah bears witness that indeed they are liars.
4:90 Except those who join a group between whom and you there is a treaty or those who come to you with hearts restraining them from fighting you or fighting their people. And if Allah had willed, surely He would have given them power over you, and they would surely have fought you. So if they withdraw from you and do not fight against you and offer you peace, then Allah has not made for you a way against them. 4:91 You will find others wishing to be secure from you and to be secure from their people. Every time they are returned to the temptation, they are plunged into it. So if they do not withdraw from you and offer you peace and they restrain their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them. And those - We made for you against them a clear authority.
(Self-defense)(Allah knows best)
60:8 Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you in the religion and do not drive you out of your homes, that you deal kindly and justly with them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.
(Self-defense)(Allah knows best)
5:41 O Messenger, let not grieve you those who hasten into disbelief of those who said, "We believe" with their mouths, and their hearts believe not, and from those who are Jews. They are listeners of falsehood, (and) listeners for other people (who have) not come to you. They distort the words from their context, saying, "If you are given this, take it; but if you are not given it, then beware." And for whom Allah intends his trial, then never will you have power (to do) anything for him against Allah. Those are the ones (for whom) Allah will never intend to purify their hearts. For them in the world is disgrace and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment. 5:42 Listeners of falsehood, devourers of the forbidden. So if they come to you, then judge between them or turn away from them. And if you turn away from them, then they will never harm you in anything. And if you judge, then judge between them with justice. Indeed, Allah loves those who are just.
(Some non-Muslims say that Muslims are to be unjust with non-Muslims, while they are just with themselves, but according to the Qur’an, Muslims are to deal kindly and justly with them, as long as they do not fight Muslims or drive Muslims out of their homes (60:8)(self-defense). According to the Qur’an, the believers have to be custodians of justice, even if it is against themselves (4:135))(Allah knows best)
4:135 O you who believe, be custodians of justice (as) witnesses to Allah, even if it is against yourselves or parents and relatives. whether rich or poor, for Allah is nearer to both of them. So do not follow the desire, lest you deviate. And if you distort or refrain, then indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
5:8 O you who believe, be steadfast for Allah as witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of people prevent you from being just. Be just; it is nearer to piety. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
4:58 Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Indeed, Allah excellently advises you with it. Indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.
58:22 You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those - He has decreed faith in their hearts and supported them with a spirit from Him. And He will admit them to Gardens underneath which rivers flow, they will abide in it forever. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. They are the party of Allah. No doubt, indeed, the party of Allah, they are the successful ones.
9:84 And [you] not/(never) pray for any of them who dies, ever, and [you] not stand by his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, and died while they were defiantly disobedient.
9:120 It was not (for) the people of [the] Madinah and (for those) who were around them of the bedouins that they remain behind after the Messenger of Allah, and not/(or that) they prefer their lives to his life. That is because [they] (are) not afflict(ed) [them] (by) thirst and not/(or) fatigue and not/(or) hunger in (the) way (of) Allah, and not/(nor) they step/(took) any step that angers the disbelievers, and not/(nor) (did) they inflict (up)on an enemy an(y) infliction except/(but that) is recorded for them [in it] (as) a righteous deed. Indeed, Allah (does) not allow the reward (of) the good-doers to be lost.
(According to Verse 9:120, inflicting an infliction upon an enemy is a righteous deed. The context of Chapter 9 is fighting in self-defense)(Allah knows best)
30:60 So be patient. Indeed, (the) Promise (of) Allah (is) true. And (let) not those who (are) not certain in faith take you in light estimation.
