Is God the only Protector?
32:4 Allah is the One Who created the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them in six periods. Then (He) established Himself on the Throne. You have not besides Him (dunihi) any protector or any intercessor. Then will you not take heed?
(The root of the word “duni” (besides) is “Dal-Waw-Nun”, and it means “short of someone or something, lower than. duni – short of, below of”. So there is a sense of the other being lower in status. So, in regard to protection, everybody is lower, so the Verse does not say that “they cannot protect”, but that no one can protect you from God)(Allah knows best)
72:22 Say, "Indeed, no one can protect me from Allah, nor can I find any refuge besides Him (dunihi).
(There are refuges to be protected, but there is no any refuge to protect you from God, because those refuges are “lower than/ duni” God)(Allah knows best)
9:116 Indeed, to Allah (belongs) the dominion of the heavens and the earth, He gives life and causes death. And you do not have besides (duni) Allah any protector or any helper.
(If Allah intended to harm people, then they would have no protector nor a helper. This interpretation is confirmed by Verse 33:17. The Verses of the Qur’an complement each other)(Allah knows best)
33:17 Say, "Who (is) it that (can) protect you from Allah If He intends for you any harm or [He] intends for you [a] mercy?" And they will not find for them(selves) besides Allah any protector and not/(or) any helper.
18:102 Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants as protectors besides Me (duni)? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging.
(One interpretation is that the disbelievers wrongly think that they can take servants of God as protectors, as if the servants were above in status in the matter of protection)(Allah knows best)
41:31 We are your protectors (awliyaukum) in the life of the world and in the Hereafter. And for you therein whatever your souls desire, and for you therein what you ask,
(“We” is “God”. The Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive. So God is your protector, and it is complemented by Verse 5:55, “Only your ally is Allah and His Messenger, and those who believe,...”)(Note: “We” is used for respect and also is said to be used for glorification. The plural is used for respect in many languages. In English it is called the “royal we”)(Allah knows best)
5:55 Only your ally (waliyyukumu) is Allah and His Messenger, and those who believe, and those who establish prayer and give zakah and they are those who bow down.
(According to Verse 41:31, God is your protector, and that sentence does not exclude the Messenger and those who believe, but the Verses of the Qur’an complement each other)(For example, a person is able to help another person, but if God intends to harm you, then you don’t have any helper or protector, besides God, so that only God Himself could stop the harming)(Another point is that if someone intercedes, it is by God’s permission (2:255), so they do not decide the matter on their own. So, there is no contradiction or error in these Verses, but the Verses complement each other)(The root of “waliyyu” (ally) is “Waw-Lam-Ya” and it means “to be close, near, follow, be up to, direction of following. Walli – direct. Walii – Protecting benefactor; Helper; Ally; Successor; Heir; Guardian”)(Allah knows best)
2:255 Allah - there is no God except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and the guarding of both of them does not tire Him. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
9:71 And the believing men and the believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and they establish prayer and give zakah, and they obey Allah and His Messenger. Those, Allah will have mercy on them. Indeed, Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
13:11 For him are successive before and behind him who protect him by the Command of Allah . Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people misfortune, there is no turning away of it. And there is not for them besides Him (dunihi) any protector (walin).
(The Verse uses the word “duni” which does not imply “only protector”, but according to the meaning of “duni”, it is about “there is not for them “(those who are in fact) lower than” Him any protector”. So, everything is “lower than” God, and among those “lower” ones, none can protect you against God’s command. This interpretation is confirmed by the context of Verse 13:11, the previous sentence says “when Allah intends for a people misfortune, there is no turning away of it”, so you do not have protection “if God” intends for you misfortune)(Another point is that someone is protected by the Command of Allah, so because Allah intends to protect him. So, those who are commanded to do it, they do not protect you on their own, but under God’s command)(Allah knows best)
10:3 Indeed, your Lord is Allah, the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods, then He established Himself on the Throne, disposing the affairs. There is no intercessor except after His permission. That is Allah, your Lord, so worship Him. Then will you not remember?
(They intercede after the permission of Allah. So, if a person is protected, that’s God’s intention. The intercessor did not decide it. So, there is no contradiction in the Qur’an)(Allah knows best)
9:14 Fight them - Allah will punish them by your hands and disgrace them and give you victory over them, and will heal the breasts of a people (who are) believers.
(In this Verse, people is a “tool” of God’s will)(Allah knows best)
8:17 And you did not kill them, but Allah killed them. And you threw not when you threw, but Allah threw and that He may test the believers with a good trial from Him. Indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
3:13 Surely it was/(there has been) for you a sign in (the) two hosts which met - one group fighting in (the) way (of) Allah and another (of) disbelievers. They were seeing/(saw) them twice of them/(their number) with their eyes. And Allah supports with His help whom He wills. Indeed, in that (is)/(there is) surely a lesson for the owners (of) vision.
(Those who are helped, is according to God’s will, while other than Him do not decide it)(Allah knows best)
3:128 Not for you is the decision of anything whether He turns to them or punishes them, for indeed, they are wrongdoers.
66:4 If you both turn to Allah, so indeed, your hearts are inclined; but if you backup each other against him, then indeed, Allah is his Protector, and Gabriel, and the righteous believers, and the Angels, after that (are his) assistants.
