What happens to mountains on Qiyamah / the Resurrection?

What happens to mountains on Qiyamah / the Resurrection?

70:8 The Day when the sky will be like molten copper, 70:9 And the mountains will be like wool,

101:5 And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up (l-manfushi).

(Verse 101:5 says “And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up (l-manfushi)”. The root word of “l-manfushi” (“fluffed up”) is “Nun-Fa-Shiin”, and it means “to card the pie or wool, scatter or pull into pieces, flatter, pasture, etc.”. On the other hand, Verse 56:6 says that the mountains “become dust particles dispersing (munbathan)”. The root word of “munbathan” is “Ba-Tha-Tha”, and it means “spread / dispersed / scattered, etc.”. So, both Verses use a different word but similar meaning: “scattered”, so there is no contradiction between them. One interpretation is that the mountains would be “like wool”, in regard to becoming dispersed, scattered, pull into pieces, … . The mountains would disperse as they became dust particles (56:6))(The Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive but complement each other, so Verses 101:5 and 70:9 complement each other)(Allah knows best)

56:4 When the earth will be shaken with a shaking, 56:5 And the mountains will be crumbled with crumbling. 56:6 So they become dust particles dispersing (munbathan).

78:18 The Day the trumpet is blown and you will come forth in crowds, 78:19 And the heaven is opened and becomes gateways, 78:20 And the mountains are moved and become a mirage (saraban).

(One interpretation is that the mountains are a mirage (“saraban”) because there are no mountains anymore, but a “mountain”/heap of sand that can disperse (aka “dust particles dispersing” (56:6)))(The root of “saraban” is “Siin-Ra-Ba”, and it means “to go freely, flow, run, go manifestly, go about freely. sarab – plain of sand, substance, mound of loose sand, optical illusion, mirage”)(Allah knows best)

73:14 (On the) Day (when) the earth and the mountains will quake, and the mountains will become a heap of sand (kathiban) pouring down.

(Verse 73:14 uses a different word, but confirms that mountains become a mirage because “mountains will become a heap of sand” (73:14). So, you see the shape of the mountain while in fact it is a heap of sand)(The root of “kathiban” is “Kaf-Tha-Ba”, and it means “to gather, heap up, make up, collect into one place, many or much, etc.”)(Allah knows best)

27:87 And the Day the trumpet will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is in the earth will be terrified except whom Allah wills. And all (will) come to Him humbled. 27:88 And you see the mountains, thinking they are firmly fixed, while they will pass as the passing of the clouds. The Work of Allah Who perfected all things. Indeed, He is All-Aware of what you do.

(The winds spread the clouds (30:48), so similarly, the winds would spread the particles (previously mountains))(Allah knows best)

20:102 The Day the Trumpet will be blown, and We will gather the criminals, that Day, blue-eyed. … 20:105 And they ask you about the mountains, so say, "My Lord will blast them into particles. 20:106 Then He will leave it, a level plain. 20:107 You will not see in it any crookedness or any curve."

18:47 And the Day We will cause the mountains to move and you will see the earth as a leveled plain, and We will gather them and We will not leave behind anyone from them.

52:9 (On the) Day the heaven will shake (with a) shake 52:10 And the mountains will move away (with a) movement

69:13 Then when the trumpet is blown with a single blow, 69:14 And the earth and the mountains are lifted and crushed (with) a single crushing.

77:10 And when the mountains are blown away,

81:3 And when the mountains are moved away,

21:78 And David and Solomon, when they judged concerning the field, when the sheep of a people pastured (nafashat) in it, and We were witness to their judgment.

(“Pastured” (nafashat) in Verse 21:78 has the same root than “fluffed up” (l-manfushi) in Verse 101:5. The sheeps disperse when they pasture. Similarly, the mountains disperse after becoming dust particles)(Allah knows best)
