What was man created from?
3:59 Indeed, the likeness of Jesus with Allah is like the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.
(Dust are particles of matter (hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, etc.). Man is also made of these particles; according to the link below: “about 99 percent of your body is made up atoms of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen. You also contain much smaller amounts of the other elements” (e.g. silicon, aluminum, iron, magnesium, etc.))(Source: the article “The particle physics of you” at “symmetrymagazine(dot)org”)(Allah knows best)
19:67 Does man not remember that We created him before, while he was nothing?
76:1 Has there come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing mentioned?
(Man was nothing, and he was created from dust. Verse 76:1 refers to “a period of time”, while the creation of man refers to a different period of time, so these Verses are not mutually exclusive, as some non-Muslims say)(Allah knows best)
15:26 And verily, We created humankind (out) of sounding clay from altered black mud.
(Clay is composed of water, aluminum, iron, magnesium, etc. As said above, man has amounts of these too)(So, man is created from dust and from clay, and these Verses are not mutually exclusive, but complement each other)(Source: the article “Clay minerals” in Wikipedia)(Allah knows best)
16:4 He created the human being from a drop, then behold, he is a clear opponent.
(“Nut’fatin” (drop) is male’s and female’s secretion (aka “sperm and ovum fused”). So, this Verse refers to the period in which male and female already exist, and they have offsprings from their secretions)(Allah knows best)
23:12 And indeed, We created humankind from an essence of clay. 23:13 Then (thumma) We placed him as a drop in a firm resting place. 23:14 Then (thumma) We created the drop into a clinging substance, then (fa) We created the clinging substance into an embryonic lump, then (fa) We created the embryonic lump into bones, then (fa) We clothed the bones with flesh; then We produce it as another creation. So blessed is Allah, the Best of Creators.
(The Qur’an chronologically describes the stages of creation inside the womb (23:12-14): The drop/zygote (aka “sperm and ovum fused”) is placed in a firm resting place (uterus or womb)(23:13), then (“thumma”) the drop/zygote becomes a clinging substance (blastocyst)(23:14), then (“fa”) the clinging substance is implanted/embedded in the uterine wall, and it develops into an embryonic lump (23:14))(In Verses 23:12-14, each stage/period is a “creation”, because it says “then We created … then We created … then We created …)(Each stage is not mutually exclusive, but “then” (“thumma” and “fa” in Arabic) indicates that there is a chronology among each stage)(Allah knows best)
71:14 And indeed, He created you in stages.
21:30 Do not see those who disbelieved that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, then We parted them and We made every living thing from water? Then will they not believe?
(According to the article “The water in you” at “usgs(dot)gov”: “up to 60% of the human adult body is water”, “the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%”. And semen is mostly water)(Some non-Muslim argued that “made of” refers to fundamental or basic material, so that there could not be more than one basic material. An answer to such wrong objection is that the Qur’an says “created” (Kh-Lam-Qaf) in the case of dust and clay, not “made” (Jiim-Ayn-Lam). So, in this matter, “made” (Jiim-Ayn-Lam) is only used in the case of water (21:30, 32:8); nevertheless, that objection was made according to an English dictionary, while the Qur’an is in Arabic. English and other languages are interpretations of its meaning, so he had to check the meaning of the Arabic word, not the English one)(The root dictionary of the Qur’an does not say that “made of” refers to “fundamental or basic material”)(“Kh-Lam-Qaf” means “to measure or proportion a thing, to form or make according to proper measure, bring into existence according to a certain measure, originate or produce after a pattern or model which one has devised, bring into existence from a state of non-existence, etc.”)(“Jiim-Ayn-Lam” means “He made a thing. He created / brought into being / existence. He made to be / become / constitute. He made to be in a altered state / condition. He pronounced a thing by a true judgment / decision / legal ordinance, his judgment, etc.”)(Allah knows best)
32:7 The One Who made everything He created good, and He began the creation of man from clay. 32:8 Then (thumma) He made his progeny from an extract of water despised. 32:9 Then (thumma) He fashioned him and breathed into him from His spirit/inspiration and made for you hearing and sight and feelings; little thanks you give.
(There is a distinction between the creation of the “first man” and his progeny. One is “from clay” and the progeny from clay and “from an extract of water despised”, so the first one did not imply sexual reproduction; that is the case of Adam and Jesus)(One interpretation is that Verse 32:9 refers to Adam, because it says “breathed into him from His spirit”, like in Verses 38:72 and 15:29. Then “Adam” is referred “after” “his progeny”, so the whole mankind is descendant of Adam, because when speaking about our creation is like speaking about Adam’s creation. Another interpretation is that “him” refers to “progeny”, because both are masculine singular. So, each human being is fashioned and is breathed from inspiration. This interpretation is confirmed by the next sentences: “and made for you” and “little thanks you give” (32:9). “You” is plural in these sentences, so it is addressed to everybody (Adam’s descendants))(So, mankind was created of clay, plus from an extract of water)(“thumma” (then) indicates order)(Allah knows best)
76:2 Indeed, We created man from a drop, a mixture, We test him; so We made (for) him hearing and sight.
(This Verse confirms that the drop is a mixture (of sperm and ovum))(Allah knows best)
80:17 Destroyed is man, how ungrateful is he 80:18 From what thing did He create him? 80:19 From a drop (nut’fatin) He created him, then He proportioned him,
(The Arabic word “nut’fat” (drop) is both male’s and female’s secretion)(Allah knows best)
