Did the golden calf statue moo?
7:148 And the people of Moses took, after him, from their ornaments an image of a calf, which [for] it (had) a lowing sound (khuwarun). Did they not see that it could neither speak to them (yukallimuhum) nor guide them to a way? They took it and they were wrongdoers.
(Cows communicate with moos. Verse 7:148 explicitly says that the image of a calf cannot speak, but instead, it (had) a lowing sound (mooing sound / a moo / cow voice). The Verse says “yukallim” (speak), it is derived from the root K-L-M and it means wound or opening of the skin. It is also used to mean words or statements because those are the products of the opening of the mouth, which is an opening of the skin. So, the Verse implicitly says that the lowing sound or moo is not produced by opening the mouth, which is how cows moo. Some people interpreted that the sound was made due to the wind entering and exiting the statue, or due to the use of dust)(The root of “khuwarun” is “Kh-Waw-Ra”, and it means “utter a cry / low or bellow, become weak / feeble / languid, soft or fragile, become faint / remit or abate, etc.”. So, according to some of the meanings, it could also be any (weak) sound, or a context other than sound or “lowing sound”)(Allah knows best)
20:88 Then he brought forth for them a calf's body which had a lowing sound (khuwarun), and they said, "This is your god and the god of Moses, but he forgot." 20:89 Then, did they not see that it could not return to them a word and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit? 20:90 And verily Aaron had said to them before, "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Gracious, so follow me and obey my order."
