When do people come back to life?

22:7 And that the Hour will come, there is no doubt about it, and (wa) that Allah will resurrect (yab’athu) those who are in the graves.

(According to Verse 5:110, Allah said to Jesus, “when you bring forth (tukh’riju) the dead by My permission”, and Verse 2:243 says “Then Allah said to them, "Die;" then He restored them to life (ahyahum)”. So, according to these Verses, anyone can be “back to life” at any time (When God wills; by God’s permission). On the other hand, Verse 80:22 says, “Then when He wills, He will resurrect him (ansharahu)”. But notice that these Verses cannot contradict themselves anyhow because they use different verbs (“yab’athu” (22:7) / “tukh’riju” (5:110) / “ahya” (2:243)), so the physical body was not destroyed in Verses 5:110 and 2:243, while Verse 22:7 refers to making the physical body again (aka “raising / resurrecting”, not just “coming alive”). In conclusion, those who are alive again, before the Day of Resurrection, they were not resurrected before the Day of Resurrection, because their body was not bones or particles yet, so there was no resurrection before the Day of Resurrection, because the Verse uses a different verb, which does not imply making the physical body again)(Another interpretation is that Verse 22:7 specifies “Allah will resurrect those who are in the graves”; so, those who are not in the graves yet, could be alive again)(In regard to the grave, it is interpreted that the grave is not physical, because it is provided by God, not by mankind; this is confirmed by Verse 80:21, “Then He causes him to die and provides a grave for him,”)(Another point is that death and life are twice (40:11, 2:28); so, a person was dead (non-existent), then alive (in this world), then the person dies, then he is resurrected. So, it is interpreted that everybody is resurrected on the Day of Resurrection, on the other hand, there can be some particular events (5:110, 2:243), in which people is back to the life of this world, before the Day of Resurrection; so their bodies had not been destroyed yet, so it is considered that they stayed in their first life, rather than a second life or Hereafter. So, that they did not abandon their bodies completely, but they would finally die, and a grave would be provided to them, so that they are resurrected on the Day of Resurrection as well)(Another point is that Verse 22:7 does not contradict Verse 3:169, because Verse 3:169 says that “they are alive”, not dead, while Verse 3:169 does not say “resurrect / raise / revive” as Verse 22:7 does. Someone “unseen” by men implies that he has not a visible physical body, so it does not necessary imply that someone is not alive (e.g. Jinns, Angels); so Verse 2:154 tells, in regard to those who are killed, that they are alive, but you do not perceive. According to Verse 75:1-3, the physical body is resurrected on the Day of Resurrection. So, it is interpreted that after the physical body dies, people are alive in the grave, until they are resurrected. This is confirmed by Verses 40:45-46, which is interpreted as a punishment in the grave. Or, for example, in Verses 23:99-100, those who died are speaking to God, before the Day of Resurrection, so they are alive in the graves)(The Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive, but complement each other, so, all these Verses are correct, without contradictions)(Allah knows best)

3:169 And do not think of those who are killed in the way of Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive; they are given provision near their Lord. 3:170 Rejoicing in what Allah bestowed on them of His Bounty, and they receive good tidings about those who have not yet joined them (but are) left behind - that (there will be) no fear on them, nor will they grieve.

2:154 And (do) not say for (the ones) who are slain in (the) way (of) Allah "(They are) dead Nay, (they are) alive, but you (do) not perceive.

16:20 And those whom they invoke besides Allah they create nothing, but are themselves created. 16:21 (They are) dead, not alive. And they do not perceive when they will be resurrected (yub’athuna).

(Verse 16:21 mentions “resurrected / raised” (yub’athu), likewise, Verse 22:7 mentions “yab’athu”, so the context in both Verses is death of the physical body, but they are alive, able to speak (23:99-100), or able to perceive pain (40:45-46), but they do not perceive when they will be resurrected (16:21)(aka “when their physical bodies will raise again”))(Allah knows best)

75:1 Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection. … 75:3 Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?

(Verses 75:1 and 75:3 confirm that the physical body is raised on the Day of Resurrection)(Allah knows best)

19:17 Then she took a screen from them. Then We sent to her Our Spirit (ruhana), then he appeared to her in the likeness of a well-proportioned man.

(There is a distinction between the Spirit and human physical body)(Allah knows best)

17:85 And they ask you concerning the soul (l-ruhi). Say, "The soul (l-ruhu) is of the affair of my Lord. And you have not been given of knowledge except a little."

6:50 Say, "I do not say to you that I have with me the treasures of Allah, nor do I know the unseen, nor do I say to you that I am an Angel. I do not follow except what is revealed to me." Say, "Can the blind and the seeing one be equal?" Then will you not give thought?

80:21 Then He causes him to die and provides a grave for him, 80:22 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. … 80:37 For every man among them, that Day, (will be) a matter occupying him.

(It is interpreted that the moment “when He wills” (80:22) is on the Day of Resurrection. According to Verse 70:4 “in a Day, its measure is fifty thousand years”, so that Day is a very long Day; people is resurrected when God wills, within that long period of time)(Allah knows best)

40:45 So Allah protected him from the evils they plotted, and the people of Pharaoh were enveloped by the worst punishment, 40:46 The Fire; they are exposed to it morning and evening. And the Day the Hour (will be) established, "Cause the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment."

(This Verse is interpreted as there is also a punishment in the grave, before the Day of Resurrection)(Allah knows best)

36:51 And the trumpet will be blown, and behold, from the graves, they will hasten to their Lord. 36:52 They [will] say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us from our sleeping place?" "This is what the Most Gracious (had) promised, and the Messengers told the truth."

(This Verse could suggest that there is no a punishment in the grave, but “sleeping” does not imply to be dead in the grave or not to suffer. And “sleeping place” does not imply that they are always sleeping. Similarly, Verse 78:6 says “have We not made the earth a resting place?”, while people is not always resting)(Allah knows best)

52:46 The Day (when) their plotting will not avail them in anything, nor will they be helped. 52:47 And indeed, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment before that, but most of them do not know.

(There is a punishment before the “Day”)(Allah knows best)

8:50 And if you (could) see when the Angels take away souls of those who disbelieve, striking their faces and their backs "Taste the punishment of the Blazing Fire."

(This Verse suggest that when the Angels take away souls, the disbelievers would taste the punishment of the Blazing Fire)(Allah knows best)

24:25 That Day, Allah will pay them in full their due recompense, and they will know that Allah is the Manifest Truth.

(“In full” could suggest that there were previous partial recompenses)(Allah knows best)

16:25 That they may bear their own burdens in full on the Day of Resurrection, and of the burdens of those whom they misled without knowledge. Unquestionably, evil is that which they will bear.

24:39 But those who disbelieve, their deeds are like a mirage in a lowland, the thirsty one thinks it to be water, until when he comes to it, he finds it not to be anything, but he finds Allah before him, He will pay him in full his due. And Allah is swift in account.

23:99 Until when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back 23:100 That I may do righteous (deeds) in what I left behind." No, indeed, it is a word that he speaks, and (wa) before them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.

(When death comes, they ask to be sent back, so they are alive because they are speaking)(According to the Verse, the barrier, until the Day they are resurrected, is for the wrongdoers)(Allah knows best)

4:18 And the repentance is not accepted from those who do evil deeds until when death is present to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I repent now;" nor for those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.

9:101 And among those around you of the bedouins are hypocrites and (also) from the people of the Madinah. They persist in hypocrisy. You do not know them, We know them. We will punish them twice, then (thumma) they will be returned to a great punishment.

(This Verse confirms that people could be punished twice, before the great punishment)(“Thumma” (then) indicates order)(Allah knows best)

6:59 And with Him are the keys of the unseen, none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. And not a leaf falls but He knows it. And there is not a grain in the darkness of the earth and not (anything) moist or dry but is in a Clear Record. 6:60 And He is the One Who makes you die by the night and He knows what you committed by day. Then He raises you up therein, so that the specified term is fulfilled. Then to Him will be your return, then He will inform you about what you used to do. 6:61 And He is the Subjugator over His slaves, and He sends over you guardians until, when death comes to one of you, Our messengers take him, and they do not fail. 6:62 Then they are returned to Allah, their Protector - the True. Unquestionably, for Him is the judgment. And He is the swiftest of the Reckoners.

5:110 When Allah said, "O Jesus, son of Mary, remember My Favor upon you and upon your mother when I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit, you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity. And when I taught you the Book and the wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you make from clay like the shape of the bird by My permission, then you breath into it, and it becomes a bird by My permission; and you heal those born blind and the leper by My permission; and when you bring forth the dead by My permission. And when I restrained the Children of Israel from you when you came to them with the clear proofs, then those who disbelieved among them said, "This is not but clear magic."

2:243 Did you not see those who went out from their homes and they (were in) thousands fearing death? Then Allah said to them, "Die;" then (thumma) He restored them to life. Indeed, Allah is surely Possessor of bounty for mankind, but most of the people are not grateful.

70:4 The Angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a Day, its measure is fifty thousand years. 70:5 So be patient, a good patience. 70:6 Indeed, they see it (as) far off. 70:7 But We see it near. 70:8 The Day when the sky will be like molten copper,

(According to Verses 70:4-8, humans have a perception of time with which they see the Day far, but God sees it near)(Allah knows best)

40:11 They will say, "Our Lord, You gave us death twice and You gave us life twice, and we confess our sins. So is there any way to get out?"

2:28 How can you disbelieve in Allah? While you were dead, then He gave you life; then He will cause you to die, then He will give you life, then to Him you will be returned.

58:6 (On the) Day (when) Allah will raise them all and inform them of what they did. Allah has recorded it, while they forgot it. And Allah (is) a Witness over all things.
