Did pagan Meccans get revelation before Muhammad?

Did pagan Meccans get revelation before Muhammad?

34:43 And when Our clear Verses are recited to them, they say, "This is not but a man who wishes to hinder you from that which your forefathers used to worship." And they say, "This is not except an invented lie." And those who disbelieved said of the truth when it came to them, "This is not except an obvious magic." 34:44 And We (had) not given them Scriptures which they could study, and We (had) not sent to them before you any warner. 34:45 And those who were before them denied, and they have not attained a tenth of what We (had) given them. But they denied My Messengers, so how was My rejection?

(Some non-Muslims say that there is contradiction between these Verses, but, according to the context, Verse 34:44 only refers to those at the time of the Prophet Muhammad, so “them” is the people alive on earth in that period (so they had Muhammad as a warner), because Verse 34:44 specifies “We (had) not sent to them before you any warner”, while Verse 34:45 refers to those before the time of the Prophet Muhammad, because Verse 34:45 specifies “those who were before them” (“them” are those who only had Muhammad as a warner (34:44)). So, Muhammad was a Messenger and a warner for them (“you” in Verse 34:44 is masculine singular, and it refers to the Prophet Muhammad. This also indicates that the Verse only refers to those at the time of Prophet Muhammad). On the other hand, Verse 34:45 explicitly mentions that those who were before them (those who were before the time of Muhammad) denied the Messengers, so, there were Messengers sent to them, and were denied (34:45). In conclusion, Messengers were sent to those who were before “them” (34:45), and Muhammad was sent to “them” (34:43-44), so there is no contradiction between Verses 34:44-45, nor between Verses 34:44-45 and 10:47)(Allah knows best)

10:47 And for every nation (ummatin) is a Messenger. So when their Messenger comes, it will be judged between them in justice, and they (will) not be wronged.

(The sentence “for every nation is a Messenger” might not refer to “every generation”, but at least one generation of a tribe had a Messenger. But a more likely explanation of Verse 10:47 is that it refer to the Hereafter, rather than referring to this world, because the sentence “they (will) not be wronged” (10:47) is mentioned in other Verses of the Qur’an, in the context of the Hereafter (2:281, 3:25, 3:161, 4:77, 4:124, 16:111, 17:71, 19:60, 23:62, 39:69). Another point is that Verse 10:47 says “Messengers”, rather than “warners”, so there is no contradiction anyhow. And there are human, but also non-human messengers, so Verse 10:47 could refer to the Hereafter. According to Verse 6:61, “when death comes to one of you, Our messengers take him”)(The root of “ummatin” (nation) is “Alif-Miim-Miim”, and it means “ummatun: a man’s kinsfolk, tribe, party, community, nation, group of living things having certain characteristics or circumstances in common, any grouping of human or animal, creation, generation, creatures of God, etc.”)(Allah knows best)

36:6 That you may warn a people their/(whose) forefathers were not warned, so they (are) heedless.

(It could be objected that Verse 34:45 is in direct contradiction with Verse 36:6, but you have to consider that Muhammad was sent to the whole mankind (7:158, 34:28, 3:96, 21:107, 6:19, 36:70), not just to the Arabs. So, the Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive, but complement each other. So, there were warners before, among Semitic people, but Muhammad also warned a people their forefathers were not warned, whether Semitic or non-Semitic)(Allah knows best)

6:42 And certainly We sent (Messengers) to (the) nations (umamin) before you, then We seized them with adversity and hardship, so that they may humble themselves.

(The word “umamin” (nations) also imply “generations”. So, it might not only refer to his own community, but it is unspecific)(It is a fact that there were Messengers before Muhammad)(Allah knows best)

4:164 And surely We (have) mentioned to you Messengers before and Messengers (about) whom We (have) not mentioned to you. And Allah spoke to Moses in a conversation.

43:27 Except the One Who created me; and indeed, He will guide me." 43:28 And he made it a lasting word among his descendants, so that they may return.

46:29 And when We directed to you a party of the jinn, listening (to) the Qur’an. And when they attended it, they said, "Listen quietly." And when it was concluded, they turned/(went) back to their people (as) warners.

(This Verse suggests that anyone can be a warner. Acting as a warner is a messenger’s duty (18:56). So, it might suggest that anyone could act as messenger, even if he was not specifically sent or chosen to be so. In that sense, “for every nation is a messenger” (10:47))(Allah knows best)

67:8 It almost bursts from/(with) rage. Every time a group is thrown therein, its keepers (will) ask them, "Did (there) not come to you a warner?" 67:9 They will say "Yes, indeed, a warner came to us, but we denied and we said, "Allah has not sent down anything. You (are) not but in great error."

25:51 And if We (had) willed, We (would) surely have raised a warner in every town. 25:52 So (do) not obey the disbelievers, and strive (against) them with it, a great striving.

(This Verse might be in line with Verse 11:118, “And if your Lord had willed, surely He could have made mankind one community, but they will not cease to differ.”. There is a purpose of filling Hell (11:119))(There is no contradiction in the Qur’an, because the Qur’an does not say that every single human would receive the Scripture, etc., but, for example, says that God sent to nations before Muhammad (6:42), etc.)(Allah knows best)

26:208 And We (did) not destroy any town but it had warners

(Verse 6:8 says, “if We had sent down an Angel, surely the matter would have been decided; then no respite would have been granted to them”. For example, the people of Pharaoh saw signs, and disbelieved in it (8:52), so they were seized for their sins)(Allah knows best)

11:49 This (is) from/(of) the news (of) the unseen, (which) We reveal to you. Not you and not/(nor) your people were knowing it before this. So be patient; indeed, the end (is) for the/(those who are) God fearing."

5:19 O People of the Book, surely there has come to you Our Messenger, he makes clear to you (after) an interval of the Messengers, lest you say, "There came not to us any bringer of good tidings or a warner." But surely there has come to you a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And Allah is on every thing All-Powerful.

(This Verse is addressed to the People of the Book, (interpreted as Jews and Christians), who needed a warner (Muhammad), because they deviated (e.g. Jews do not believe in Hell, Christians believe in the man-made concept of trinity, etc.))(Allah knows best)

22:75 Allah chooses Messengers from the Angels, and from mankind. Indeed, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Seer.

35:36 And those who disbelieve, for them (will be the) Fire (of) Hell. Not is decreed for them that they (may) die, [and] nor will [of] its torment be lightened for them. Thus (do) We recompense every ungrateful one. 35:37 And they will cry therein, "Our Lord! Bring us out; we will do righteous (deeds) other than (that) which we used (to) do." Did We not give you life long enough that whoever (would) receive admonition therein receives admonition? And the warner came to you. So taste, then for the wrongdoers (there is) no helper.
