How long did it take to destroy Aad tribe?

54:19 Indeed, We sent upon them a furious wind on a day (yawmi) of continuous misfortune,

(The root of “yawmi” (day) is “Ya-Waw-Miim”, and it means “day, era, time, today, age, period of time, etc.”, so the Arabic word could also refer to a period longer than one day, so there is no contradiction in the Qur’an anyhow, but “day” would be a generic word, referring to “days” of misfortune)(Another interpretation is that it is the day on which the furious wind was initiated. There is no mention of the total duration of the punishment, nor is said “only one day”, but the Verse says that the furious wind was sent on a day of continuous misfortune. In other words, “more than one day” does not contradict or change the fact that the furious wind was sent on a day of continuous misfortune. Verses 46:24 and 51:41 also refer to the day in which it began)(Allah knows best)

41:16 So We sent upon them a furious wind in the days of misfortune, that We may make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the life of the world. And surely, the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped.

(The Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive but complement each other. The furious wind was initiated one day of misfortune (54:19) out of a number of days of misfortune (41:16). So, In all those days there was a furious wind)(Allah knows best)

69:7 Which He imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms.

(Verse 69:7 specifies the number of days mentioned in Verse 41:16. They were seven nights and eight days. “In succession” indicates that the furious wind was initiated on a day (“day one”)(54:19), then it continued seven days more)(Allah knows best)

46:24 Then when they saw it (as) a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, "This is a cloud bringing us rain." Nay, it is that which you were asking to be hastened, a wind in which is a painful punishment,

51:41 And in Aad, when We sent against them the barren wind.

(In regard to the interpretation that “day” is a generic word, which comprises “days” – likewise, other Verses in the Qur’an use generic words: for example, “Garden” in singular (39:73) is taken as the name of that entire place. That place includes “gardens” (18:31, 22:23), springs, rivers, gates, etc. Or, for example, “the heaven” (41:11) is a generic noun which includes seven “heavens” (41:12))(Allah knows best)
