Gender of worker bees in the Qur’an?
16:68 And your Lord inspired to the bee, "Take houses among the mountains, and among the trees, and in that which they construct. 16:69 Then eat (kuli) from all the fruits and follow (fa-us’luki) the ways of your Lord made smooth." Comes forth from their bellies (butuniha) a drink of varying colors, in it is a healing for mankind. Indeed, in that is surely a Sign for a people who reflect.
(According to the article “Worker bee” in wikipedia, the worker bees are females. The “worker” bee is addressed in the Qur’an in the female mode, in Verse 16:68. The Qur’an uses “kuli” (eat) for females, instead of “kul” for males; and uses “us’luki” (follow) for females, instead of “usluk” for males; and uses “butuniha” (their bellies) for females, instead of “butunihim” for males)(Allah knows best)
